We all mourn the passing of a really great car.

My wife was hit while going through an intersection. The guy didn't stop for the red light, and took off the entire front.

Thankfully she and the kids are all ok, but found out today that they are calling the car a Total Loss.

The car had just turned 10 years old and final mileage was 119,808 (just getting broken in).
The assessor was extremely impressed with the condition andcare level on the car..except for the new accident damage of course... but said there was enough body/frame damage, plus probable engine work, to make it too expensive to fix in relation to the vehicle value.

Looks far worse than what my son did to mine and that was $7500 5 years ago.

You could probably piece together enough salvage parts to save it for a grand or 2, but it would probably require having a really good friend with a frame rack.

thanks ntrenn... I was tempted to try and keep it, and do just that.. but I have no place to keep it during the process, and no one anywhere close with the tools and other gear needed.

We will truly miss this car.

My condolences on your loss, and good to hear that your family wasn't injured. The insurance settlement is more than likely going to feel like a slap in the face. Again, my condolences.

Tigger - Total settlement from the insurance is $6,049.01. I will get all but $1,000 of it in a day or two. The remaining will come once the other party's insurance accepts fault and responsibility of his having been the cause. Then they will send me the additional funds to cover my deductible.

All in all... not 'quite' a slap in the face, but it will be tough to find a replacement of the same quality and equipment for anything near that.

Always a shame :/ Sorry it happened. Both times Ive been hit I've been lucky with repairs. They were both near 100% repair to value ratio...but in the end it made no difference to the insurance company as to where the money went so they repaired it both times.

Hey man sorry 2 hear about the wreck! I also had 1 back in January my was a total loss 2!! I got $2900 4 my 98 bought a 95 that I'm picking up next week 4 $2300 pocketed 600 but it'll probably get spent on it also!! Lol so I know what your going through glad everyone was ok!! Aurora's are miniature tanks my friend!!

Sorry for your loss but good thing your family is safe. I wonder what the damage to the other car was. And for the $ you got i sure you can find another aurora in good shape. If this would be some Toyota would be a lot worse.
