I have a 98 and I've been having this really loud squeal occur every time I like to have some fun and put the pedal to the floor. it only happens when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. I think it's the belt but why is it doing this?

I think it's one of the 2 belts, I have had a couple Auroras do this, too.

First, determine which belt it is. Open the hood and manually pull the throttle cable to see if you can track it down. Next get a new belt and see if that fixes it. If not, suspect the tensioner/idler pulley. Good luck and keep us posted! (it sounds like a weak tensioner, letting the belt slip, but could also be a worn belt or bad pulley bearing.)

Mine does this too.
I've got a good amount of work to do. I'm replacing my A/C compressor, accumulator, belt tensioner and idler pulley, and the belt.
This should get rid of it! XD

Not too long ago one of the belts actually snapped and the idler pulley froze up and i was stuck in the middle of the road -_- but i got a new belt new idler pulley and a new belt tensioner so theyre all pretty new. Maybe its the other belt?

Yessir...change all of the rest of pulleys. 100,000 miles is the only safe replacement interval on them. Anything over that and you are asking for trouble.
