Not exactly an Aurora trip but in an ;)ldsmobile nonetheless. Went south a couple hours here to Bentonville, Berryville and stayed in Eureka Springs in the "haunted" 1886 Crescent Hotel. The blazing weather finally took a break and dropped a 20 degrees to average norms. No ghosts but the drinks were good.
Checked out some museums and parks like the Native American History Museum and Pea Ridge Natl. Park. The highlight for me was finally getting to see this spot on the river called Bluff Church that my great great grandfather traveled to on horse and preached and baptized there for 60 years. I was completely shocked to find it so pristine because only a few hundred yards down river after another water fall where Hog Scald Hollow meets Beaver Lake, it's molested with graffiti, cans, glass and hooks.
Even after record breaking drought there was water in some pools, as it's spring fed. This is Hog Scald Hollow without any running water, which include the famous scalds, Auger Falls over Bluff Church and the old cave shelter! The scalds were used by pioneers before and after the Civil War. They heated up iron implements and stones and used them to heat up the water to 180 deg. They would soak razorback hogs in them so as to get the hide off easy. Indians camped and fought here during the war.
