After giving the Aurora its first bath since the weather started warming, I have decided this year I want to get my exhaust looking good. To start, I would like to make the tips shiny. Would I need to get new tips or are the stock ones able to be shined up? I checked the stickies but did not see anything about exhaust tips. This is basically what they both look like, I obviously just wanted to get a close up and getting a close up of both would be hard to do. What can I do to make them look new?

"BlueMagic 400 Metal Polish Cream" on amazon. Another member used this and had success.

I used a rust removal tool that you attach to a power drill to clean all the crap off mine, worked like a charm

Very nice. Thank you all for the info. Will try and get on that soon. Just got to wait for the weather to warm up again. Mid 70's yesterday to rainy and in the 40's today. Brrr. Whenever I get the tips cleaned I'll post them up.

How do you get to the top of the tips? do you gotta drop the exhaust or just not do it? I spent about 20 minutes with some steel wool on mine the other day and got next to nowhere lol. Im gonna pick up one of those discs in the next few days and try again, mine are horrible looking. I might just need new ones oh well, im a try anyway.

There are a couple of hangers you could drop and probably get enough room.

Re-did mine again. I have to think of something to keep the rust off, right now I just wiped them with WD-40. Used my old friend haha

I'm probably going to take the spare tips off of my other pipes and powdercoat them with our ceramic chrome coating. It is good to about 1400 degrees, enough for pipes for sure. It burned off when we tried it on the formula car, but the temps get up to 1800 on that. The exhaust guy wouldn't listen to reason haha. I ended up recoating those in turbo x black, good to 2000.
I'll post results when I do, maybe some people around here would be interested in that if it looks good. And I can get us an ACNA discount haha.

Hit them with some high temp clear after polishing.
'Chrome' powder coating will never get you a true mirror finish and w/o clear coating will still oxidize because of the heavy metallic load. The clear coat will also knock down the chrome appearance. At least this is my experience.

Nah it's not a true chrome, more like a polished silver. This is good , professional powder though. It's meant for exhaust, it will need cleaning like everything else but won't lose it's sheen or appearance with temp or anything. We have had plenty of customers with it and it has held up great over the years. My boss has it on his Shelby Cobra and hasn't had any problems. I guess the only way to test is for you all to see if you like it after it has been on my car for a couple months.
Turn around would be out of the box to back in the box and shipped in about a week, usually quicker but that's what we tell customers just in case a big job comes up. We have a UPS hub at work so stuff goes out easy and quick. 35% discount on material and labor to anyone on ACNA which includes burnoff time, sandblasting, coating and cure time. I'll have an exact price once I get mine done. I can do any color too pretty much, although high temp related colors aren't as plentiful. Doesn't have to be chrome.
I'll post pics when I get mine done!

For you guys out there that are DIY on exhaust work I hsve some questions. I'm knly using this thread because I didn't wanna start a new thread since its in the same area of my subject. Since I don't have a welding machine, what type of exhaust clamps would you guys recommend when installing new piping??

Reading this reminded me of how bad mine are starting to get!! I have used Mequiars Hot Chrome Rims cleaner on my Chrome wheels and it works absolutely amazing. I never thought about trying it on the exhaust tips.. Going to try it this weekend!

I like lap band or butt band clamps. Great alternative to welding in those situations. Otherwise a regular slip fit connection a regular exhaust clamp. There is also some nice v band clamps.

Probably a stupid question but we are of these exhaust tips normally chrome? I looked at mine and they are mighty brown and black but obviously they didn't come that color so I'm assuming they were. So either blue magic or turtle wax? And some serious rust remover?

The 2002 & '03 have chrome tips. The others are stainless steel.

Some Classics came out stock with tips that were coated or painted black, I have a set of these on my Aurora.

Yep, you can see chipped paint on the 96 ones and the 99 ones that are on my car now wouldn't polish even with a rotary head on my drill. I'll shoot some pictures tomorrow of the 99 pipes, 96 pipes are at storage with the parts car.

It's definitely a factory coating, I don't remember what year my exhaust came off of, '96-'97, I think, but it has the coating. I will try to get the pictures up faster than xjs, and I will take my time, I don't have enough time to take a pic and post it now. This has been discussed and posted before on this forum if you can find it.
