Ahoy
I'm starting to get into the real meat and potatoes mods. My current project is the exhaust.
Now, I'm a college student, so money is a bit of an issue [nonexistent, it seems], so I don't have the spare change to throw down for a Corsa system. There's a local exhaust shop here in Jacksonville that'll weld up a full exhaust for a good price.
After much studying and research, it seems that every exhaust mod for a V6 ends up sounding too high pitched and ricey. I hate the sound of it. I know I don't have a V8, but I'm looking to see what I can do to give my car a deeper rumbling exhaust note.
I was thinking straights, and they have a nice sound up until about 3k, but anything above that is high pitched and raspy. Would increasing the diameter of the whole system help? Or is this raspy, harsh sound just the nature of the beast?
Thanks for any help!

Electric cutout. There are many threads here about it. Easy to install. It's an electric butterfly valve that gives you straights when you want them and you can close it on the highway. It is a little raspy on the v8 too, but I still love it. I had straights before and put stock mufflers back on when I installed the cutout. Sall is getting ready to do one too, I'm sure he will have some comments. ;D
Lkraft replaced his piping with larger diameter stuff I believe and it is throatier down low but he also has mufflers, I'm not sure how much can be attributed to mufflers and how much to larger piping. Can you confirm, Lathan?

Can you confirm, Lathan? I was considering the cutout, actually. It looks sweet as hell, sounds cool, and allows me to go incognito when there's a cop. Big plus in my book! Yeah. If I go the cutout route, I'll be sticking with mufflers. Granted, they'll be aftermarket. Not sure what to get though. Was thinking FM's, but they're expensive as hell. :/

I don't think straight pipes or a cutout would sound good on the v6. I have yet to hear a modified 3.5L exhaust sounds good TBH.
Now... I have a thrush welded on my 4.3L v6 in my little S-10 and it sounds good, but I don't know how they would sound on the Aurora. I used to run them on my Classic Aurora too. Just waiting for humidity to drop to finish mine up.
You might search youtube or some intrigue forums for modified exhaust setups. Probably more out there than Auroras although most I see around here are fart cans haha.

What I did was I had an exhaust shop create me a whole new exhaust from the cat back. I have 2.5 all the way through with a singe glasspack where the resonator used to be. Its pretty quiet at idle, but when you hit the gas, you really hear it. The glass pack takes out most of the higher tones and just leaves the deep sounds. I got my whole system with mufflers and dual chrome tips for just over $300.

Sall hit the nail right on the head. V6's just don't sound good with exhaust. I'd just leave it alone. Save your money from doing that stuff and just get a tune from madtuner.

Those all sound ricey to me. The Borla Fusion isn't too bad on the inside. The Infinity sounds like a motorcycle.

LoL. Same here....I think I'm just used to the V8 deep throaty sound to the point nothing can compare anymore. On my supercharged regal GS I learned the hard way that V6s sound like garbage with exhaust after spending $300 of exhaust mods to only go back to a stock muffler b.c I couldn't stand the sound.

I just want it to sound a bit less restricted is all. No so much louder, but just a little deeper. Maybe I'll just go 2.5 all the way from the cat. A V6 is gonna be a V6 I guess. LoL. I just moved from the 3800 modding scene. My old car was an 01 Regal GS. I loved that car. What I miss most about the 3800 world is the aftermarket. I mean, it's small, but at least there are vendors and such. There's like a negative aftermarket for Auroras sadly. scottyaurorav8, were you a member of regalgs.org?

Yep for years...I was scottyregal on there. I had a 12sec. GS. I agree...the 3800 scene was great. I wish it were the same for the aurora. These cars could be so awesome, they are so unique. I had a turbo grand national and recently got rid of my 485hp C6 Corvette. Now my gf has an 08' 3800 grand Prix I play around with. Yea I'd stick with the stock mufflers but going with a 2.5 would be fine.

i actually like the sound of some v6 engines depend on what car it is like a honda just sounds like ******* but something like a nissan skyline or a toyota supra or like that red infinite in the video that was posted earlier now those sounds good as hell to me but like ya'll was saying nothing compares to a v8 engine they sound so good but i have to say there are some v6 engines (3.5L) that sound good to me those 3.5L high output dodge chargers sounds good to me too but i guess it just depends if your a v6 person or a v8 person i like both but v8 is better though
