I spotted this car outside the parts department of a local GM dealership. Does anyone know if this is a body kit for a Camaro, or did they actually produce a limited run of Trans Ams? imageshack.com/user/Rocinante2009/a/GxpF

It's a kit; ztafirebird.com/one of many, $5k and not the greatest looking of the bunch IMO.

Ya they are just a kit, but I like the trans am kits better then the gen 5 camaro itself. Trans am depot also do conversion kits. They got four different kits, 77 firebird, 69 firebird, 69 gto, and the Hurst trans am. I really like the style of their kits than any others I have seen, plus, they can do t-tops. www.transamdepot.com

why would u turn chevy in to the Pontiac lol To start conversations like this one. Besides, what's the difference? Both GM lines had great products in the 70s, and both are struggling to maintain mediocrity these days.

Pontiac is dead haha no mediocrity about it.
Anyways, I like it. Actually like some of those kits better than the stock look.

Thats pretty sweet! Although I think the front differs quite a bit from the Camaro almost enough to think its a factory transam, I don't know if they just made those tails or did it when the camaro first came out, but it looks just like the 2014 camaro tail redesign (for those who havent seen the camaro tail redesign from the 2 circle tail light corvette look rear tails to the one piece tail goto chevy.com and look at the new 2014 camaro rear) and its basically those tails with just red sticker lines, like most pontiac tails have, I would did something more drastic for the rear (like the totally diff tails, and make them one piece with transam in the center like the last gen, and put a pontiac looking rear spoiler on). And also change the side view mirrors, and maybe like a side scoop in the fender or something. And then do a totally PONTIAC changed and labelled interior and a pontiac engine cover.

Transamdepot does some serious work! The new TAs look pretty sick. As do the "New" GTO!!! BUT, did anyone catch a peak at the new 442 concept that mimics the rally 350?!?!

I always thought it unfortunate that Pontiac was shuttered before they had a chance to produce a legitimate Firebird based on the new Camaro, but the various kit card do give a nice glimpse at what might have been. I also like the 442 concept, but my hands-down favorite is still the GTO pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/crop/201105/pontiac-gt9-goat-by-_600x0w.jpg. That is just the epitome of badass. It just works visually, both in terms of fitting the design of the Camaro and making a convincing interpretation of the original.

I like the GTO concept but that 442 ended up looking too much like a Torino.

I can't just just jump on a bandwagon because something says "Olds" on it. In my opnion, that 442 "concept" car is hideous. The only thing it's paying tribute to is the Joke of a car they produced in '78 and put 442 graphics a foot tall on the side: Attachment Deleted

Yeah that red one looks like a Toronado. I like the looks of this one!! Looks more like a Rally 350 than a 442. Attachment Deleted

View AttachmentI agree, they did a much nicer job with the angles for the grill/leading edge of the hood matching the angles in the hood. It makes the design flow a lot better. They also didn't use the "Torino"-style rear end.

Agreed. The yellow 442 one is a much better interpretation than the red one, although I'd really like to see it with the white/gold or black/gold livery, a'la the '70 Hurst 442. And for a slightly more modern twist, how about the Hurst 442 livery in Diamond Pearl and gold.
Kersh is exactly right about the red one resembling that hideous Cutlass Salon body style from '78 and '79. My dad was a district sales manager for Oldsmobile back in the day, and those cars were so unpopular that he and his colleagues could hardly get anything else to drive as company cars. The supply chain was so glutted with them, that management tried to create an illusion of popularity by making the employees drive them. The stupidest part of the design is it wasn't a hatchback, a mistake they rectified when they ported those lines over to the Chevy Citation in 1980.
