Alright, alright. Not sure if anyone around here has ever messed around with this stuff before. I have a Power Wheels Lil Quad and 18 month old needs more speed! It's very slow on grass he almost looks bored. So 6v to 12v conversion it is. Going to switch to 12v 10ah battery. He is going to get some LED lighting too. Little guy hopped on the quad like he knew what he doing showed him the 'go' button one time and he's been going ever since. It doesn't have reverse but that can be added later not sure he's ready for thsat yet. Never thought I'd be modding a power wheels There is actually an entire forum for modifying power wheels, go figure. SOme people make RC cars out of them.

Yeah I've been reading up on that, that is on the horizon for me but not yet. I want to get one for my (almost) 2 year old little sister. I figured I would let her get used to it for a little while before modding anything, though. My dad has an H2 and she likes it, so I figured I would buy her the pink power wheels H2 haha.
Post some videos! That thing will be cool once it gets going on steroids! ;D

Messing with kids man you will be doing stuff you never thought you would be lol. Thats what they do to us. And a forum on modifying them, that's funny. There's probably a forum on how to build a space rocket lol.

I've seen a few videos of people that have missed their kids power wheels. I've actually seen someone put it on a dyno. I can't remember the numbers, but it was pretty cool to see.

Haha I ordered the battery this evening. The battery I purchased seems like it will fit in the compartment with not too much modification. I will just need to build a shelf above the motor and notch out a piece of the bottom side of the seat. Just trying to decide where to mount some LEDs on it. Try and recycle something already laying around... will try and post some pictures when I work on it!

I have upgraded a 12v (10ah) jeep to a 24v (2x12 20ah batteries). The motors were parallel on 12, I put them in series on 24, it worked for a few runs, then one of the motors burnt out, I found another one in the recycling center and grabbed the motors out of it and put a power supply fan (5" i believe), and it worked great untill the batteries died. But it was under heavy use. Whenever it was out, all the kids of the street took their turn on it, including me:)

Funny thing is today I brought home two more larger ones. A pink Jeep and a bigger quad...for free! Now I have plenty of time to make him a BA for when he is big enough to upgrade. Hope I can keep them out of sight some how. He's 33" tall but still no way he can reach the pedals. The lil quad he has now has a momentary push button on the handle bars. Here is 12v upgraded to 36v(Skip to 1:10)

www.modifiedpowewheels.com The folks on that forum are dedicated to ride-on car mods like we are dedicated to Auroras! There are some awesome upgrades people have done. Some of the flashing LED lighting added the ambulance and police car versions is amazing! Lots of Youtube videos on those. We have a 12v Dodge Charger police car (Kidtrax brand) and 12v John Deere Gator (Power Wheels brand). The Kidtrax is 2.5 years old and needed a new battery this year. Kidtrax wanted $60 but then I found the same thing (off brand) on eBay for $25 instead! Same voltage anyway, although it seems that it doesn't quite have the same capacity (doesn't run quite as well before needing recharge) compared to the 12v OEM battery when it was new. The Gator is in decent shape but the battery won't charge on the factory charger anymore. I can charge it fine by removing it and using an automotive trickle charger though (takes some extra work to pop the battery casing on and off each time), so I just need to find a new charger I guess to speed up the connection process.

Haha yeah! I stripped the pink barbie jeep down last night to the body shell. Removed all the stickers and wet sanded it. Cleaned it thoroughly. Now to get rid of the pink body shell. I am thinking painting it orange with black accents. There are tons of places to mount LEDs too haha. It has tail lights and some rally lights up top. I will shoot some pictures some time.

Here a pretty major LED upgrade on a Charger police car:
This is same car I have, and the only OEM lights is the flashing lightbar on top of the windshield. The one above has something like 6 additional LED sets (12 added lights total) plus an iPod-compatible stereo and external speaker!

That's a sweet setup. I won't go that far. Maybe if it was a police car. That suits it really well. This Jeep will get some tails/heads/rally lights and call it a day. I will try to recycle some old retro stuff or I'll order some Chinese stuff and voltage regulate it and hope for the best.

Thanks!.... but I won't be putting a tiger paw on it lol! It's took this long for decent weather to paint outside. I've found some headlamps too for it but I need to design some decals and have them printed on vinyl. Still lots of little parts to paint though.

I was going to do this to the Barbie Countach years ago but realized I was too big to ride the silly thing.

If you look at the DX page there a couple of connectors. I'll have to find a mating molex or just solder. I believe the speaker outs are on the middle white one with VCC and GND.

Thanks!.... but I won't be putting a tiger paw on it lol! Haha! Yeah, kinda figured that. Oh well. ;D Looks like you're having a blast with this project, that's great! Enjoy this time in their lives, it passes way too quickly. Seems like only last week that my daughter told me training wheels are for babies. She starts college next Thursday.

This is probably one of the funniest threads ever! Wish I did this when my son was that age. When I saw that cop car, I laughed so my tears flowed, haha Keep up the work and keep us posted, Sall.

LOL! It is pretty funny. Fact is I could have bought one and spent a little bit more and then modify it but this is more fun(for me). In the end will have a very unique power wheels that no one else will have. I received the radio unit today and it looks pretty neat. Will still need to find a small pair of speakers. Have 7" 300w RMS amp that will fit right under the seat. Thinking to order a small 6" subwoofer for under there too. Or maybe fit it in the hood compartment. Other than that. Progress is slow as it has been too humid to continue painting. Possibly start working on the dash now since the radio is in and can get some more accurate measurements for cutting the opening.

Modified the dash bezel piece to except the stereo unit! Cut rectangle piece out roughly. Cut piece of Lexan for filler piece. Cut hole in lexan for radio unit. Rough cut and mock-up. I smoothed out the rough bezel cut and painted it yesterday. No pics of that yet. Want it to fully cure before messing with it and putting pieces back together. Slowly coming along.

Well, finally weather I can paint in again. This is almost finished and he is just about big enough to drive it. Will still have to wire in lights, radio, etc. at least he can drive his unique PW around for a bit until then! Hard to believe it was pink once haha.

Needs a WARN winch and KC's on the roll bar! LOL!
Looks great man, keep on having fun!

Haha thanks! It is all put back together now! The problem with actual lights on the roll bar is they won't even be functional. Just light up the back of his head haha. So for some 'usable' light I bought a pair of these to go into the headlamp location. Probably something like these for tails/parks. Add a wigwag and strobe effect. Simple enough.

Actually installed it's first mod and it wasn't LEDs haha. Installed a 6 tone siren with a momentary push button. Pics later...
Probably going to use the tweeters out of the '96 for some speakers for the radio! Amp under the seat lol.
