Getting parts from a Bonneville would work much better for you. The "W" body cars (Grand Prix, Intrigue, Regal) use a different mount configuration for the motor than the "A" body cars (Aurora, Bonneville, Park Avenue) when using the 3800. Hmmm. Alright, sweet. Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to scavenge the junkyard for a Bonne I looked at the link above [the bonneville forum one] and the bays look identical. That should help the swap A LOT.
----------
If I were to upgrade to the HD tranny, would I have to screw around with the axles? [never liked doing that...]

UPDATE: I got in contact with the guy who made the video [posted earlier] of the Aurora 3800 swap. He said he tried the run just a plain jane L36 with the stock Aurora trans, and it got eaten.
So it seems that I'm going to have to do an HD tranny swap, since I'm dropping in an L67.
Does anyone know if I have to do any axle work or anything else? Or does it mate with the Aurora?

I know the L67 cars had stronger axles than the L36 cars. I DON'T know if there were physical differences in the length/configuration of the axles.
The only thing I could suggest would be going to a local autoparts place and have them pull the replacement axles for both and compare them.
Otherwise, just see if the salvage yard would throw in the axles from the SSEI or ParkAvenue "Ultra" when you buy the tranny.
PS: I don't know where you're located, but there was a supercharged LSS in the local Pull-A-Part in Canton, Oh. It would have the 4T65EHD you need.

I guess I'll see if I can get axles from a few of the GTP's or something similar in our yard. I'm down here in FL. Would I need to pull the axles from a Bonne or Park Ave? Or can I use the ones from a Grand Prix? I've been told yes and no that W-body suspension parts work on our cars. Sorry for all the questions and thread bumping guys. Just want to make sure I've got everything covered before I pull the engine out and go "Oh sh!t, I forgot X and Y" and then my car isn't driveable for a week.

To CONFIRM, yes, the "W" body is different with regard to both the axle length and Engine/transmission mount styles.
The engine and transmission themselves are the same. The mounts can be moved from one engine to the other, however, in your position (buying everything), you're much better off buying the engine from the "A" body as you will have the mounts you need on the engine. I would also suggest getting the bar that goes across the front of the car (across the top of the radiator) from whatever car you get the engine from. That way the mount will have the correct place to bolt to.

Did you try "moradparts.com". He has everything for 3800's. I've even called him for some aurora stuff too.

WOW. you have my respect. we hear people all the time talking about engine swaps and power adders, but almost none of them ever come through. you did one heck of a job. we definitely like pics and videos. what kind of power do you estimate out of it?

Haha yes it is very selfish! Not really it is your proprietary intellectual property! This is what the forum is here for after all though to share information.
I wouldn't personally drop a 3800 in a Classic so it's a moot point for me. Just thought some 2G guys with the 3.5L would want an upgrade since there is a lot of aftermarket available for the 3800.

I guess approx 260 crank maybe a little more. Ran low 15 at the track but my plans fot this are only just begining because of the 3800 aftermarket.

No one has done a 4.6L drop in in the 2G though AFAIK. One is still stuck with no aftermarket with the 4.6L though too. No 4.6 swaps in 2nd gens huh... Silly sall. And yes its immature of you not to share your SC 3800 swap, but you're 19 and you spent a lot of time so I can understand

I think this swap is completely unique and sets itself apart from anything out there. The luxury/ride/ unique appearance of the aurora with a L67 engine. Very cool! I mean I used to have a 98' Supercharged Regal until a drunk driver slammed into me and totaled it. I had it from 43000 miles to 103000 miles basically no mechanical issues what so ever. Even driving it to the track and home. My best time was 12.43@ 106.7. Stock I ran a 14.43@98mph with a horrible 60ft of 2.35. I mean the car was just incredible and aftermarket is awesome. I have 2 issues. 1- the v6 doesn't sound as awesome as my corsa exhausted aurora. 2- no matter how fast my regal GS was I could never beat my GF's 99' Seville STS(corsa exhaust, custom intake, high flow CAT) from a 60mph launch, even when I put a mild cam in it LOL. So I think with the aurora, with the mods I've done so far I'd miss too much....but kpratts swap is truly original and ground breaking. The Aurora community is small and the vehicles arent prevalent. It be nice if you'd share your method. regardless, you'd always be labeled the originator. It be a tempting swap for me if I had the money but still, id like to see what the aurora could be with some other performance things I plan to do...but if it doesnt meet my expectations I'd love to do the swap.

No doubt a unique and cool swap, however there's no replacement for displacement...and LS4 from impala SS or Grand Prix gxp would be some chore, but awesome! And tons of aftermarket. However just a straight forward swap from the 4.0 to the 4.6 is a chore also. Either way, the options are becoming more acknowledged

Haha sorry plato... are you the only convert in ACNAdom? Not sure if I'm the only 4.6 swap in the 2G here on ACNA. I did the build up and made the swap, then had to pull the engine out again and seal the oil diversion plate gasket and upon doing so snapped 6 main bolts. It was a real beotch!

I think you are Plato. So do you have the 4.6 up and running in your car right now? Have you taken it to the track at all? I bet that sucker screams.....I'd love to do that swap, but just don't have the means. I even wouldn't mind doing a vin9 cam swap in the 4.0 either.

To the original poster, don't forget the Buick Lucerne (3rd Gen Aurora), some of those had 3.8s, and the platform is very close to Auroras, same but improved sub-frame and suspension front and rear.

It's not a track car yet, but instead our baby's ride. Taking her to and from daycare, then my wife drives it to work. I rarely get a chance to drive it anymore ha! Big reason I haven't got a chance to take it to the track yet, the closest is either Firebird in Boise or down in salt lake, still 3 hours out of the way. My feelings are if you're going to pull the engine for any reason, have some bucks saved up and do the necessary to it regardless of what you put back into it cuz pulling it is a b!t€h!!

If the 3.8ltr burned up the Aurora trans it would be due to computer controlling problems or a mechanical problem not engine power. This same trans is being powered by 320 hp and it's designed for a torque load equivalent to a 8,000 lb vehicle. It would take 'probably' 5-600 ft lbs of torque to trash it with a 4k lb vehicle (load). The internal trans filter most likely, it will smoke your clutches if left unchanged, you pump will scream for life too. Won't have enough pressure to hold gear and slip out. Happened to me a few weeks ago. Good job on the transplant though will be nice to see that break 300+ hp EDIT: Sorry, I've been a little absent minded lately (a lot going on with my Daughter), anyway just remembered the Gen 2 has a different powertrain completely with the v6 option lol. How could I forget that?

I plan on doing the Impala brake swap this summer as well, just debating on which rotors to throw in. I also want to run it at the track this year, just need to plan out a day and drive 3 and a half hours to one first.
