Has anyone had to replace theirs on the trunk lid? Looking for some tips or ideas. Replacements will be threaded and a nut , but factory is not quite sure (hot riveted/welded) on how to remove them for new ones.

1st Gen I assume?
2G's do not have trunk lid struts like the hood does.
The hood struts a are a ball and socket type with a retaining pin. Look for a pin to pull and then the strut might pop off with a little help from a screwdriver.

I'm not sure about the thread and nut, but to replace the trunk struts on a classic, the procedure is pretty universal; simply pry the metal clips out on both ends of the struts and then pull the strut off of the nipples. If the nipple had broke off beside the tail light get it welded back up and put the strut back on.

Thank you for the replies. Yes, Gen 1 Classic It is not the lift support itself, but the ball stud it mounts to. It is located on the trunk lid to the left or right of the trunk lid insulator. One had broken the bracket from the trunk wall so I removed it from the lid, then the pressure from the lift strut broke the ball mount off the other side. I have found 8 mm replacements, but looking how to effectively remove without damaging the current hole for the replacements.
