Just a quick question, I don't know if this question pertains to this section on performance. We all know that we can place 4.6 liter Caddy motors into our cars. Has anyone ever tried the LS4 motor found in the Grand Prix GXP? I do understand that these are two entirely different beast, different transmission set ups and so forth. I am curious as to the possibilities of this engine in our cars.
Thank you

The short answer is sure with enough money you can get pretty much anything to work, but... I believe you would also want the tougher tranny and even then it has issues with adding more power that a LS platform is capable of.
Just bolting it in may be OK but a lot of measuring would need to be done. In the little reading I have done it "may" bolt up to the tranny, but it's a guess on the engine mounts, exhaust manifolds, oil filter access, accessory clearance, AC hoses, firewall clearance, front support clearance, etc. But again, all fixable.
Note that the LS4 is a bit different than other LS platforms, shorter crank, different accessories and mount points, etc. I am unsure of the engine cradle - but it might be easier to take the whole assembly from a doner like the Grand Prix and figure out how to put it in the Aurora. Then you'd have check on what customizations would be needed for AC hoses, Power Steering hoses, cooling hoses, drive axle shafts, wiring harness, etc. There may also be issues with firewall and or front radiator mount clearance.
But all of that is fixable - just more money.
BUT - it would be way cool to see a blower sticking sideways out of the hood... ...gene

Yeah the ideas been tossed around amongst talk with swapping a 3.8 and 4.6. The 4.6 is very doable, the 3800 has been done and a thread is out there. The 5.3 would be sweet! Also there's a YouTube video of a DTS rear wheel drive with a 502BB doing a burnout at a fair or something. It was BA! I think it would be awesome to retro fit a toronado transaxle and 455 in an Aurora!

I think it would be awesome to retro fit a toronado transaxle and 455 in an Aurora! One good aspect of that: No worries about electronics.

Thanks for your responses. I had a 1997 Grand Prix GT and have always wanted the 2005 GXP. I actually was looking for one when I found my Aurora. I did not know there was no real aftermarket for it. I really never wanted to go crazy with mods, but 300 HP is where I think our cars should have been in the first place. Looks like I will be doing the 4.6 swap at some point.
Blower intake facing sideways would be legend. Everyone would be like "What the .....", until they hear it and say "Holy.........". Lol
Thanks again for the responses.

It was BA! I think it would be awesome to retro fit a toronado transaxle and 455 in an Aurora! Now that would be a project. That cave the Toronado had for an engine compartment would mean a lot of fab to get it in there, but yeah - and put a blower on that! ...gene
