Read somewhere on the web about 2nd gen Aurora having an aluminium hood / trunk lid. I know my 2003 does not have that. Whaaat? A lie or something that was planned and never happened OR only in 2001 OR... ?

I believe the trunk is aluminum if it is made of two pieces. So the 3.5L has a two piece trunk and that should be aluminum.

T41 LID,RR/COMPT ALUMINUM ALUM RR COMPT LID (T41) 14,575
^from by build sheet, 14,575 4.0's built, so ALL '01 4.0's have aluminum deck lids.
FWIW, ALL Aurora's have aluminum hoods. The two piece deck lids were steel and were on ALL 3.5's. Some late '02 and most '03 4.0's got the two piece lid.
Got a magnet? LOL!

Ok, I see - so my 2003 has a steel trunk lid, and it has some rust on its edges. Will hunt for an aluminium version!

A while a go some idiot slid across it dukes of hazard style. Now the half of the hood that is closest to the windshield is not flush with the panels that run along it. Its not all that noticeable, but if it only needs some tugging and pulling to get it back in place I would be very happy. If someone could send a picture of what that hinge joint is suppose to look like that would be awesome also I have a small area of the hood that either is rusting or the paint is being weird, is there any way to stop the spread of the rust? It looks like it started from under the hood from what I remember, the good news is that is the only rust on the car lol

The rust on the lip of the hood is common on 2G's, I don't know what you could do besides sanding and re-painting.

I'm wondering if the rust could spread farther than it already has and if I could theres a way to prevent it from doing so again not a huge deal, perhaps in the future I could have the whole car repainted and have all the little dings and scratches removed. I'm looking forward to keeping this car as long as I can

Ok, so "one piece" aluminium trunk lids do not have that (somewhat ugly) border around the licence plate.
