Ok so I have changed my mind on what I will be wrapping my car with.. First off, this is only temporary until I can hone my paint skills and afford the materials.. The car had some minor dents and scratches that I was slightly ok with..until water found its way beneath the paint job..I can't believe a car with a tri stage paint job,how easy the paint peeled off.. Anyways a few weeks ago I went ahead and sanded the bad areas bondo, primed and rattle canned it to prevent rust and "seal" so to speak until I can wrap the areas.. I was gonna wrap in a pearl white vinyl as I love my car this color, but I'm taking the opportunity to change it up for fun before I go to actually paint it..Not to mention that Carbon Fiber is pretty much half the price as the pearl.. So I got a 5ft x 10ft 4D gloss CF roll to start off with(process will be slowly done).. I have just enough to do my trunk and hood first..which brings the opportunity to share what a white 1st gen would look like with these two parts wrapped..I have read a few years back that some like the thought and other's wouldn't..well here I am being brave and sharing my progress..haha. So far I wrapped the spare trunk I had and installed a spoiler!I left it primer black for the time being... It is a eBay special: 11-14(off the top of my head) Dodge Charger spoiler!! Installation went surprisingly smooth with no complications! I did however have to drill 2 access holes for the front mounting screws, but the rear screws I gained access threw the 2 round caps to get to the rear deck lid... The vinyl wrap was very easy and forgiving AS LONG as you don't press down on it until ur sure...the pita I ran into was wrapping the corner's tho! I used: 3m primer/adhesive promoter 3m edge sealer Wrapcut knifeless vinyl cutting tape Suede tipped card/tool to press n smooth it out By the way ALWAYS get bubble free vinyl...or you will regret it!!! In these few pictures I'm gonna share from a link to my Instagram you can also see my new 18" tall 20"+ wide aurora logo decal on my rear window...it is cut from "etched glass" vinyl..also the back up camera in the trunk key hole.. I will be adding pictures as frequently as I can remember...as I have a problem with taking pictures of the finished product rather than as I build up haha.. Anyways, the SS style hood scoop should be at my front door step in a day or two! This is when I will be working on the hood and wrapping it also.. That's all the materials I have to work with right now,but the roof is next for sure.. Then I have to figure out if I'm going to do the 2tone style using the body lines pretty much like the forums logo..or solid black cf...I would love to do a 2 tone as its not common.. I'm thinking red CF if I decide on the 2 tone with a silver pinstripe to divide the 2..I am in the process of building my own body kit so the bumpers I'm not touching yet...if anything I'll spray my spare bumpers in black primer so it doesn't look to crappy as the build goes on...haha... Anyways idk how ima do it,but would love to mold the fenders and bumper together as i build the fiberglass bumper...For one to reduce weight and for two just to say I built that buy hand...I don't know how I'm also going to do a slight wide body kit..but its what I plan..this will take some time to do..but since I started some of my build I thought I would share!!! When I can post picture's I will gladly do so,but for now all I can do is share threw Instagram!!! instagram.com/cursed_outlaw/

So...I got my hood scoop today..its gonna be a lot of work ether way I approach this...
It is a functional scoop and has to be recessed in..or hack up the scoop and just use it for looks...well...I have NEVER seen a aurora with a hood scoop yet(this is NOT the abs plastic stick on type)it is full fiberglass...which brings me to this... I think I'm just going to plan a full fiberglass hood so I can make it functional and avoid the problems that occur mating fiberglass and metal (let alone aluminum).. This is gonna be ALOT of glass and resin to be accomplished but I'm set on being that aurora that just stands out from any I have ever seen while not being tacky...some of you might not like my approach..all I ask you to look at the work that it takes to accomplish this and at least respect my intentions...
I understand this isn't a race car nor do I intend to "try" to make it one...to me,its all about custom one off stuff...it is a form of art to me...if I don't like it or get tired of the design's iv came up with I can ALWAYS throw my original parts back on,so its not like its ruined if all fails...
Just wanted to do a update on my progress Look for a fiberglass hood in the near future!!!!!by the way I will be uploading pictures of the scoop sitting on the hood(its not flush but you get the idea)

It is not my style at all but go with what you like and make it yours. There was another Aurora with a hood scoop around before... not sure where the pics are.
My backup camera is in the lock cylinder hole as well.

Yeah have to agree, carbon fiber is not my thing, probably looks better than chipped paint though haha. The white tends to flake off on a lot of cars, even different manufacturers. Why is that I wonder? Either way to each his own, but just promise me you won't do THIS haha

Well, just wanted to post progress on my projects....I ended up just deciding to mount my hood scoop on the original hood....If and when I feel I want to do a full fiberglass hood, I can just use this as a mold..I could also ad more to it if I want, with modeling clay before I lay glass...
Anyways, this is my first go at fiberglass..So its not exactly cake walk...But let me tell you,I actually enjoy this work! Its already glasses on,I'm in the process of smoothing it out with filler!Personally I love the way it looks,I was scared it might be too much at first. Now that its starting to look like its part of the hood it looks pretty mean! Hopefully today I can get it all smooth and primed,so it can be ready for the carbon fiber wrap..I got a plan to have the scoop its self flat black and the hood CF..But I don't know, well see!
Also,my buddy gave me a old bumper from another vehicle,I might chop that and my spare bumper up to piece together something together. I'm thinking about going this route, because it will be so much easier when I go to clay one up!
Of this topic(don't wanna create a new thread) Has anyone ran magnaflow XL 3 chamber straight threw mufflers on our cars? My idea (for a mean sound) Gutted cat Y pipe(removed resonator) X pipe Dual pipes to.. Magnaflow XL3's Tips
Any input on how this will effect the performance? I planed to go with 2 1/2 inch pipe..should I go with smaller to keep back pressure? The sound I'm going for is a nice idle, but quieter than the muffler delete idle I have now(if not oh well)..to a mean growl when I get on it.. I love the way Bassani's sound but man they aren't cheap..haha
Would it be best to do that set up above or a muffler where my resonator is (single in dual out) to a X on back? Iv never seen a X pipe "after" a muffler and I figure there's a reason for it. I just have no idea haha
I'll keel posting as I build tho..Thanks for reading!!!!!

To better describe the exhaust note's I'm after.....Exotic as I possibly can with a American motor

There is one guy here with true dual exhaust, shelbyracing IIRC. Take a look at some of his pics. I'm not sure it sounds anywhere near exotic though. He also had a 'shelby' motor(VIN9 cams). Since you say you want to paint at a later date, don't think you it will be a pain to peel the wrap since you mention using adhesive. Adding that much more prep work for the final product?

Yes I do realize wrapping it temporarily will cause for more work later on when I go to prep for pain..but to me its all about learning..Also,I would rather deal with the mess later on than roll around with rattle can patches where the paint peeled or the dent repairs..If everything was readily available to paint a tri stage, I would have opt for that... Wrap just is the most available option for me st the moment... Thank you for the input,I will check those pictures out & also that video clip!!

Names..what I would recommend is getting your hood as smooth as u can! Those areas where the paint is missing will show threw on the vinyl! My car sat nearly 2 years parked in the sun so the paint was effected! It is also a trip stage pearl white. I should have it wrapped within a week,so you can get the idea what yours will look like..I'm just doing this, slowly due to money and other car issues...after I do my hood, the roof is next! But I'm working on my retro fit projectors also,so it may be awhile lol

So I finally smoothed out my hood scoop and went to lay a once piece vinyl over it....yeah....it didn't work so well... The hood scoop has to many curves for a would piece... It would have worked very well if it didn't have the scoop.. So I pulled it off....wouldn't you know... It pulled the damaged factory paint right off the primer... So now I have to sand and smooth that out while I wait for more vinyl to come in! Not a big deal to me. Yes its nerve wreaking, but I'm learning as I go! I will be taking this opportunity to run with a different style design since now I will be forced to do a 3 piece.. I'm going with a black/cold carbon fiber on the scoop and the regular black/silver for the rest!! I'm sure someone could get it with a one piece, but with 2 other helping hands that was a huge sheet to deal with curves...
I will keep y'all updated

I personally think I would go with plastidip. Like a chameleon turquoise/silver and glossifier. Way more options with plastidip now than when I originally entertained the thought a few years ago on my '98 with aging paint.

Yeah,my buddy actually mentioned doing that vs the wrap while we were having problem's! Unfortunately I just placed my order not even an hour ago for more. This time I bought the same 4D glossy black I ordered before, but also added the 4D glossy red to my order. I got to thinking the gold and the silver will clash! My intention was to go for the copper on black look. I have ton's of wrap sample's and came up with red being the best(dark) option! I really wish the pearl white vinyl wasn't double the price of carbon fiber, because that's what I really want! Its just not a very good option for me at the moment. I intend to do a 2-3 piece and use the cutting tape to create a butted seam. If this doesn't work I will definitely consider plasti dip! Thank you for you advice Sall!!

No problem, but to be clear not telling you what to do at all. Just thoughts I have had since the paint is not that great on my '98 compared to the '96. Plastidip is sort of expensive for a temp job IMO and doubt it would last more than three years in normal driving conditions. A gallon is around $60 and would probably need 4-5 on a Classic. I could paint the car for not much more in a basic color.

I'm having that same debate with the XJS at the moment, Sall. It needs paint (I'm keeping it black for sure) and I'm doing the wrap it vs. dip it vs paint it battle in my head. I'm interested to see how this build turns out! Keep the updates coming!

Collins, I agree with Tigger. Give that Jag a nice deep gloss black paint job she deserves once you get it up and running. A long with restoring all the chrome for a nice touch. Will look bangin'.

I agree also...vinyl wrap lasts up to 7 year's if "NOT" outside... On a Jaguar I'd definitely paint. But I also like the vinyl look!
On another note, I received my black CF and red CF vinyl today. I have to smooth out the hood again and prep first. So it will be a few day's before I can actually attempt the "2 piece" idea.
I also ordered "brushed aluminum" vinyl...its a darker gray... I plan to wrap the smooth panels on the inside and the headlight fascia (I still have to build)..Maybe some other thing's.
Got the first set of projector's today too! Ordered some "eagle eye LEDs" to use in some area's I have in mind. I order ambers and white. Plan to run the white like many people do around the Len's Audi style. Its became the norm these days on retro's. What ever I do I try to stand out from the crowd. (as you may have already noticed). So I'm taking a different approach. I will constantly update my progress, don't you worry. Haha I just hope member's can actually click on my Instagram link to view what's going on. If my laptop didn't crap out on me, I would have posted all my step's along the way. When I buy a new one I will definitely flood this thread with photo's. Haha

Just finished the hood. Did it in four piece's. Came out really nice. There's some imperfections I will address soon. For example the area where it would normally be functional needs black and see of I can use mess there just the scoop is 4D carbon fiber red. The rest is 4D black carbon fiber. To separate and seal the corners and cracks I used a silver paint. I'd recommend a pinstripe which I will be looking into. The reason for this is the paint makes the separate lines stand out. I look at everything very closely. Haha. I did it all by myself and was fairly easy once you get use to how it works and stretches. Just be careful on how much you stretch it..it stretches surprisingly far if u heat it right. The problem is, it alters the carbon fiber a bit if it wasn't a design type of vinyl I wouldn't worry about it. I will try my spare mirror's like this but I don't know if I'm gonna approve. Haha. I'm probably gonna start wrapping from the front after I do the roof! I got my headlight project things coming. I got 2 Tweeter's that have 11.6 oz magnets each along with 2 shallow mount midbass 8" sub's. I'm going with all db product's (maybe got a Orion comp 15")! These are pro speaker's so I should start got get some fill over the bass(ridiculous). Still not done tho. Haha any ways that's the update so far.
I will more upload picture's on Instagram tomorrow. Its too dark now! I can't wait to wrap the whole car in the black..its got so much depth on this car because of all the curves!!

Though audio is a bit off topic(maybe start a thread in the audio section). If you have had the door panels off you may see it is not going to be easy to fit that equipment there. Depth issues. You might look into glassing the tweeters into the A pillars and putting the mids into a nice enclosure between the kick panels. I am not a fan of 'pro audio' myself it is glorified PA equipment. If getting loud and SQ is not the goal then it is fine. Here is the stereo system in my three year olds Peg-Perego Gaucho. It just happened to up on the screen when I was uploading images haha. Going to put a small 6-8" for more bass in some time this summer.

Sall, yeah know the depth issue. I have MDF rings and going to glass them in along with the components relocation (same way).
The tweeters are nearly 5lbs a piece and 4 inches wide by 3.5 inches deep. I'd love to place them on the A pillars. But I think the best is the rear pillar's because their bigger and the tweets are crazy loud.
Well I pulled apart my parts spare mirror's to do side marker mods while I do the wrap.. Yeah isn't happening!
I was about to cut up the vinyl I have to wrap them. Quickly stopped myself thinking, I better check and see if I have enough to wrap more body panel's. Sure enough. I only had enough to do one front fender and a door. So I will be doing these next. In order to do the roof I have to take apart the trim and weather stripping. I do NOT wanna do this twice! So I will hold off until I do the quarter panel that runs around the window's to the front windshield. That's gonna be a looooong day and night. Haha
There's are so many thread's on here and trying to search for a specific topic on a cell phone is ridiculous. Has there been a thread made about replacing rear side windows? My window is blacked out and the spare is not. Plus,if I lay new tint the 4 year old tint will look out of place. Haha. Its not a big deal I can figure it out just by looking at it if not!
Sorry for bringing up things unrelated to the topic. Once I go to glassing my interior I will post a audio thread. Although those are best with picture's. I have so much audio equipment that I'd have to take photo's. Haha

Just a quick comment..I have the and rear door handles off so I can wrap them..
I have seen a post or two about doing the key lock delete on the front door's using the rear door handles..
I found if you disassemble then completely (had to for wrap) you can put the metal parts on the rear handle's.. I haven't tried it yet but I'm almost 100% it will work...
I'm sorry if this is a old mod...just thought I'd share my find!!!
