I went to do a simple brake change yesterday and while removing the front driver side wheel a stud snapped. I have already removed the broken one, but am failing to see a way to insert the new stud without having to take the wheel hub off. Am I missing something or does the wheel hub need to come off first? Also, did removing the broken stud potentially damage the hub at all? If so, do wheel hubs need to be replaced in pairs? Any help/suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks, Dan

put the new stud through the back, use a larger nut or washers as a spacer, and put the lug nut on and tighten. heres a link to video where a guy uses a CV axle nut as a spacer. pretty simple really

Just go to the hardware store and buy some washers. Stack them on the stud. Tighten with lugnut until seated. Honestly I would probably replace them all.
Are you riding on stock wheels or aftermarket? Tightening with impact gun? Should torque to 100ft lbs star pattern(and repeat).

And yes; hub assemblies in a perfect world would be changed in pairs. If one is going, the other won't be far behind. But at a buck and a quarter or more for the good ones, (timken, skf) most just change what is immediately needed.

If I remember right there's a certain spot where you rotate the hub to to get clearance to take the stud out.

ps watch it with the replacement studs, bring one of your old ones to compare the spline. The Dorman Part#'s for the Aurora listed the incorrect stud at every major parts store I went to.

I doubt anything you did to get the broken stud out did any damage. Hubs are tough - just imagine the impact forces when you hit a pothole on the hwy. If worst case something did happen, I'd just replace the one. Did that on my Envoy and debated doing both but waited...the other was still fine when I traded it probably 40K later.
