Hey everyone, Since I respect everyone's opinions here over my car scene friends when it comes to the ol' Aurora, I thought I'd ask about what you all thought about me dipping the rest (the not already black-dipped parts) of my 2G 3.5L intense teal. In case you haven't seen the few pictures I have of my car on here (I'm planning on taking some proper ones once I fix some minor rust spots), you can see below the theme I have going: As you can see, I already have a more "bold" thing going on already with the whole neon yellow interior, blue led lighting, and 8000k HIDs. So I'm figuring hey why not go one step further and completely ruin the thing? Haha but no, that's exactly why I'm asking for your opinions. So the color example of the "intense teal" can be seen here: Another option might be this flex blue, which would better match my blue interior leds: I realize this is quite a dramatic change from silver, and that there probably aren't a ton of Auroras out there with such a bright/bold look, but I just can't get over how much I love the color. I may also mix it to make it a bit darker/flatter, so not as "in your face." Some of the criticism I have/hear is that this color is more of a jetta/GTI/new car thing and not something to put on the 15 year old luxury sports sedan. If I didn't do this color, I would probably do a matte smoke/darkish gray on the non-black parts instead. Or I'd love to hear what you all think of a possible color! So thanks in advance and I'll be sure to post pictures of whatever I end up doing. Dan

You are going to need about 4 gallons. Is it worth about $300 for a temporary paint job? I think you need some nice chrome wheels would set the car off vs plastidip.

I've definitely thought about chrome wheels before but I live on a dirt road over the summer and keeping them clean might get a little annoying. I would also only use 3 gallons of dip, at $60 each would only make it $180. I also have a sprayer and a ton of blue painters tape and painters plastic sheets so there wouldn't be extra cost for that. My friend and I have dipped a lot of cars and since my roof/rims/a bunch of other stuff is already covered, we're confident that three would be enough. Might be a little difficult to peel but should be durable enough to last. I'm also kinda set on dipping since it's fun haha and I'm pretty happy with my black stock rims. I'm getting the feeling you're not a fan of the bold colors then?

I'm not too much of a fan of loud colors. Not too fitting for an Aurora IMO either. If it were available in gallons I would use Turquise/Silver Chameleon Plasti-Dip and glossifier though. There is a line between tasteful and 'rice'. I'd like to see you stay on tasteful side of the line. Seems maybe you are friends may lean a little to the right of that line. Which shouldn't be taken offensively everyone has their own style. It's not my car though, it's yours and that's what matters.

I agree completely, which is why I asked the members here. This is an Aurora after all, and I don't want it to end up looking "ricey," as much as I may be more on the flashy side. You described my friends perfectly haha, which again is exactly why I wanted the opinions of other Aurora drivers. I'll definitely take your opinion into consideration and am now currently leaning toward a matte charcoal gray color instead, but would still like to hear anyone else's opinions!

My opinion is a big no, it definitely screams rice imo. But its your car and if you really like it go for it.

Yeah I actually took a picture of my car and photoshopped that teal color in and it looked pretty bad. Definitely fits more on a GTI or civic or something haha So I'm now between the flex blue, which matches my interior led lighting perfectly, or just a matte grey. Any more opinions on that?

to me, the blue actually doesnt look too bad. i say the teal is a bit too bright. our cars looks best with darker colors. i say go with maybe a navy blue, black and blue, or black cherry. if you want some metallic, i would go with a nebula pearls or solid pearls. if you are wanting something to really stand out but still look good, so with some of the darker color shifts. you can do what you want, but thats just my opinion.

Start a poll! I'd vote for the grey, even though it looks like an unmarked po-po, lol! Nice PS job!

Ehh... none of them. Keep your money in your pocket for a repair or an upgrade. You could probably do big brakes and poly bushings all around for the price of the dip!

Ooooh, that does sound enticing. Still, I really want to dip it since it's something my friend and I love doing. I should mention he also kinda works for dipyourcar.com so we'll get a decent discount. to me, the blue actually doesnt look too bad. i say the teal is a bit too bright. our cars looks best with darker colors. i say go with maybe a navy blue, black and blue, or black cherry. if you want some metallic, i would go with a nebula pearls or solid pearls. if you are wanting something to really stand out but still look good, so with some of the darker color shifts. you can do what you want, but thats just my opinion. Thanks for the input! I'm also considering something darker too. Definitely not going teal anymore haha but I'm a fan of the blue as well, and it'll match my interior lighting the best. Start a poll! I was leaning toward the blue like 4 minutes ago but now my friend really likes the grey, and you might convince me. Plus I can mix it with black/white depending to make it a custom shade which would be cool. I may indeed start a poll haha I'm still so undecided. EDIT: Added three more images to the imgur album. A darker/navy blue, all black, and I was having too much fun and made an impossible white outline black version haha

Wow man, no offense but I think it would make the Aurora cheap looking if you ask me, the Aurora is a classy car. But once again it is you car so you can do whatever you want

This is exactly why I asked the members here and didn't just go off the opinion of my friends. Do you think even the dark grey or black all around would still cheapen the look? There's an 2G posted in another thread with almost the same exact paint job that I'll be doing (if i do grey)

I think the black dipped wheels and moldings kind of throw every color off.

What do you think about a flat/satin yellow-gold or green-gold?

Thanks for the input again, everyone. So it looks like one member likes the red, one suggests a matte gold/satin yellow, a couple like the blue, a few like the dark gray, and the rest say don't do anything/ruin the car haha But just humor me on this one, what about dip the rest black (this would also be the cheapest option) and then get a can or two of flex blue and make a little design? Kinda like outlining the contours of the car? I mocked up something below and I actually really like it, it's not too in your face, but would have to be done perfectly for it to look good. It's quite different, I realize. But I did it kinda by accident in photoshop and then thought it actually looked kinda cool. A little like TRON or something. I have a good amount of experience with taping things in weird curves/contours so I'm confident I can make it look good. Any opinions?

Looks like a jump from paper backpack Haha in a good way? But yeah idk if I'll go through with that look. We'd most likely use vinyl on top of the dip but I'd be worried it would pull the dip off if I don't like it. Still leaning towards the gray. Thanks again everyone for your input and dealing with my indecisiveness. I appreciate everyone wanting me to do what I want to do and whatever would make my car unique, but certainly appreciate your opinions too. If anyone has anything else to say I'd definitely welcome it, but if not I'll make a decision and will most likely go through with dipping it in a couple weeks. I'll be sure to post pictures too!

I would love to see the outcome of however you execute this! I'm huge fan of standing out from the crowd and going past limit's others set. In a artist's spectrum I would compliment what ever you do. I am not a fan of blue, but on the other hand it should match you lighting well! I vote blue for your car. If it was mine I'd do it red or black. Haha. As far as the vinyl pulling the dip off the roof....honestly it probably will. On the other hand if you let the dip fully cure and set a month or two it may not. I'm currently wrapping my whole car in vinyl wrap ATM and have learned that it sticks extremely strong once pressed on. It has pulled the factory paint right off my hood (the first attempt)!

Thanks for the input! Yeah I've been lurking in your vinyl wrap thread so I've found that vinyl can be pretty tough, especially the higher-priced/better quality stuff. I've since decided against it since I don't want the pressure of applying it all perfect on the first try. So I'm about 95% sure I'm gonna be going with the flex blue everywhere except for the already black parts. I'll have to go over the side fenders and door handles again with black since they'll just be too hard to mask off. But I can get a can or two of black and re-dip them a week or so after the blue. It'll certainly be a big change if I commit to the blue but I'm excited about what it'll turn out like haha

Hey daniel, what sprayer did you use to lay out your plasti dip? Did you use "un-thinned" or "ready to spray"?

Ok thanks.. I found that you can mix pearls in the clear so I'm going to try this..
Almost bought a Wagner spray gun but since its my first time I want quality stuff. Instead of rushing to get a gun I just ordered a few gallon's and some mica powder. Figured I'd research spray guns b4 I jump into it.
I was leaning more towards that spray gun since its specifically made for it.
I can't seem to find this online anywhere, but after its cured how hard is the finish? That's really my biggest concern with it. For example, if you push your finger nail into it does it leave a indent? What about the glossifier, is the finish a auto paint shine? I would assume its duller? I'm pretty sure you went with the matte look but since your friend does it, I'd assume you have seen different finishes.
I have more question's but I'll leave those for later . haha
BTW thanks!!

Yeah it is really easy to mess up. Anyone at any time can peel it for you. Whether accidentally or purposely. Not worth the money IMO. You can get a HVLP spray and detail gun at HF and a compressor powerful enough to operate it not much more than that gun for dip. Have a paint job that will last the lifetime of the vehicle instead of a three year paint job. IMO plastidip is reserved for trim and wheels.
