Let me start off by saying I didn't know to post this here or in exterior! Man,I think this forum need's a modded section so I can stop flooding these categories. Haha
Well I decided to post here because, while this mainly is thought of as exterior.... It is all mounted in the interior!
I have decided to do this mod due to refinishing the body(other mods to the doors exterior also). Initially I was just going to delete the exterior handle's but, went ahead and deleted the interior handles as well. Partially because of the custom door panel's.
I mounted the "solenoid's" in the interior handle location. Deleted the rods all together. Also unhooded the lock/unlock connection's. Why need locks with shaved handle's right? I will quickly attempt to do a write up on this, although I do believe very few if anyone of you guy's would do this. Or play with the idea for that matter. Haha
I already had my door panel's removed for other mod's. Odd's are,if you have thought to do this mod... You would already be aware of the disassemble process.
1.) remove exterior door handle's
2.) Drill out the rivet's that hold on the interior door handle
(For the rear's, also the lock actuator's) AT LEAST and I can't stress enough AT THE VERY LEAST unplug the connection for good.hate for you to be looking for a big enough rock due to a dead battery or worse)!!!!!also if you wish to keep your handle's working.... *Skip step*
3.) Unplug the lock/latch connections,unbolt and remove.
4.) Remove all rods
5.)find a place to mount you solenoid
(I mounted mine in the handle location.. If you decide to keep ur handles the only other place I see fit is on the inside near the latch)
6.) Take your solenoid bracket and mock up the hole's you need to drill.
(Sharpie's are you best friend here)
7.) Take a punch and make you indentation for you drill bit.
(If you do not do this, you will be chasing your drill bit)
8.) Start with a small drill bit and work your way up so you bolt will slide threw.
9.) Mount your bracket
(I went from the inside of the door and slid my bolt toward's me)
10.) Mount your solenoid to the bracket.
11.) Find the lever that activates your latch
(Use the one you inside handle attaches to) If your like most and want to keep your interior handle, you will need to drill a small hole to fit ur cable threw)
12.) Attach the cable with the item's provided in you "kit"
(I can not stress this part the most!!!!! MAKE SURE you attach a emergency cable here also! I attached some nylon string temporarily till I figure out my door panel's. If you decide to keep ur handle's skip this on all door's BESIDE ONE!!! They sell emergency cable's for this part, just so you know. Mine will be to the driver door that is hidden on the outside somewhere. I have yet to decide to put it under the hood or somewhere under the front bumper. If you decide to mount under the hood *recommend* you will need to do a exterior cable latch to open the hood)
13.) Run you cable(s) to where they are free of any obstacles and attach the cable protective sleeve provided. Pretty much a bicycle brake cable!
(could be used if you only buy the solenoid's)
14.) Connect cable to the solenoid.
(Doesn't take much to activate the latch and also the solenoid Pull's a good distance. So a little slack is fine. Just don't have it too tight!)
15.) Decide on how your going to activate the solenoid when your "outside" the car. These kit's are available with key fob switches. I have decided to install a aftermarket alarm/remote start/GPS/kill switch system. If you decide to do this, look for system's that have aux functions. The kit I'm going to get has like 7 button's and a LCD screen on the main key fob. Threw a relay the solenoid's will be activated. If you decide to delete your interior handle like I did, find a spot to mount your momentary button's. These could be mounted on the door panel's or hidden under the dash. Anywhere accessible. I decided to mount them on all door panel's and the 3 passenger door switches will be mounted somewhere close to open these doors from the driver seat as well. The kit only comes w 4 switches so if you decide to do this like I have, you will have to buy "momentary button's". I bought 8 that have a red led ring around them.
16.) Find a outside location hidden to mount yet another momentary button. I have yet decided where I'm gonna mount mine. Also you want this to be pretty much top secret. I have went the extra mile and bought a electric key switch to mount somewhere to activate/deactivate the outside button. You could also find a momentary key switch in replace of the button altogether. I didn't think of looking for one of those until now. Haha
17.) Find a place to mount your door thruster's.
(I mounted mine near the latch itself. Couldn't find another reasonable spot!)
18.) If you got the spring type like I do, you will have to cut them down!
(Make sure they don't apply to much pressure on the door!! I had one hell of a time getting my first door open do to this!)
I think I covered the basic's. The exterior button is a emergency plan in case your key fob battery is dead or locked in the car.(I will be hiding one of the key's for the electric lock somewhere away from the button and lock. Also note this.... If you do not decide to mount a emergency pull cable outside the car,you will need to mount some sort of jumper connections to access power in case of a dead battery. Please make sure to water proof this!!!! I'm going the extra mile of installing a small 12 agm battery to a on/off switch in case of this. I'm being extremely cautions and using 4 emergency access point's in case of these issue's. Some may be on the extreme side, but better safe than sorry... If one fail's,move to the next!
I will come back and update this(along with my other thread's) when I am able to upload straight to the forum.
Again, I HIGHLY doubt most will not even attempt to play with the idea of this mod.. But I will help with any questions the best I can!! This is the first time I have ever done this mod so I am no expert. If someone has any tip's please express them!!!
Also note that if you decide to keep your door handle's in and out,you do not need to deactivate your lock's or rod's and no need for the emergency access points! Most would do this to shave their exterior handle's but you could do this to open you doors remotely in addition to the manual way. There are several door thruster's or popper's available and you could build your own if you'd like. Just make sure they will are not prone to fault!!! Mine are heavy duty..
That about cover's it. I know this doesn't appeal to most on here, but feel free to ask question's!!!!
Could I request a mod category by any chance? Haha
