Some time just after noon, a coworker poked his head into my office: "Is that brown car out there yours? I think it just got f'ed up!" So out I go to the parking lot, there was already a gathering of people. From the front, everything looked normal, except it was parked 45 degrees offset from where I had left it. "WHAT THE F!?!?!" was all I could think or say. There was a gathering of people from my company and from surrounding companies. One of my coworkers had seen it happen, a blue Volvo doing at least 40, probably closer to 50 had plowed into her passenger rear quarter panel, bounced the other side of the Aurora off the adjacent 4runner, and tried to go hide somewhere. People from other businesses were guarding the exits looking for the guy who did it. One of my other co-workers found the car, around the corner of the parking lot, hidden behind a neighboring building. A big gathering of coworkers approached, and started taking pictures of the car. Just then, a guy came out and sheepishly admitted responsibility. Police were called by the witness, and insurance companies were called. The Volvo guy got taken in for attempted hit and run, as well as DUI. The good news is that I had an absurd 29.99% interest on a loan for the car, and gap insurance, so if it comes out totaled (it probably will), then my credit will be better due to an early payoff. Also, I had full coverage, so I've got an Infinity QX60 to get around in for now. Also, I'm OK, other than a broken heart. I guess the search is on for an Aurora again...

Wow, sorry to hear that, my condolences. 29.99%?!? Yeah, I made some really dumb decisions with a credit card when I was younger and never really built any credit after that. Trading in the 3.5 towards a bank loan on the 4.0 was partly to try and fix that, and partly because it was a V8 and in much better shape. I'll be around though, whether it's because I luck out and it's not totaled, or because I find another Aurora. The Infiniti drives decent, but it's nowhere near the quality of the Aurora. it's just got more salesman friendly bells and whistles, and a much weaker sound system.

If nothing else, I'd like to get one of the Aurora badges to make a dog tag necklace for my fallen soldier. There's also a couple promising 4.0 2001 cars near me for reasonable prices. I'll wait to hear what they tell me on Monday about this one. To be honest, I'm glad it happened in such a way that there's no fault on my side. It makes the insurance investigation easier.

So I just test drove an arctic white one, and a maroon one, both 2001 4.0 cars. They both have a few problems, but it was nice to drive an Aurora after the accident. The white one has service stability system and air bag problem alerts on the DIC, the cup holder doesn't retract, the hinge on the center console armrest is broken, and it needs a new battery. The red one has a stiff gas pedal, a leaky AC schraeder valve, a gouge in the paint in the drivers door, some dings on the rear bumper, weak breaks, wobbly steering, and a DIC message saying check gas cap.
They want 5995 for the maroon one, and it has more miles than the white one. The white one has a sticker price of 3777, and is more immediately drivable, so I'm leaning towards that. They both have the same neutral interior as mine, and they both have the chrome wheels (unlike mine). The white one also has tinted windows, which I was wanting to do anyway.
If I manage to find a way to keep the 2002 and pull some parts, I'll try to pull more parts than I need, and open up a marketplace thread for everyone.

Haha, that didn't take long! You're addicted.
Without knowing the mileage, 6k seems a bit high for a dinged up '01. "Air bag problem" on the more reasonably priced one could be a simple fix or a quite expensive one. Decisions, decisions...
Hope it all works out well, good luck!

Haha, yeah, I like them because people don't know what the hell it is, because it handles so well, and they go reasonably fast, for the price of an econobox. Maintenance isn't too bad either for the most part, as long as you're willing to do your own labor. The sales guy I talked to with the white one said they have a scanner at a shop nearby, and said he'll look into it. Some time this coming week I'll probably go take another look and see if they pulled any codes. I was just searching the forums about it and it seems the common problem is just a loose/corroded connection in the steering wheel, so I'll try beating on it a bit as well to see how the light responds. The body was quite dirty, so I think they've had it for a while. I think I can talk them down from the 3777 a ways. If they don't fix the DIC alerts, I think I'll shoot for 2500 on it. It has 137k on it. The red one is quite pretty for the most part, just those couple sore spots. It has about 147k on the clock too, so I'd try to talk them down to at least 4 grand if they fix the AC, throttle and alignment.

Look for a private seller if you get an insurance payout. I found my classic with 51K miles for $2300. Just a thought.

I have tried to respond back to this thread multiple time's. It kept telling I was not allowed to access this thread or something. Let me clarify the "laugh" I didn't mean it like there was no care left. I just ment your gonna think back at all the worries and stress.... After ur thoughts run deep...that's when u smile. I wasn't too far off...already have checked out 2! Hahaha As far as the dog tag idea...I like that actually. In fact a few weeks ago I messaged a eBay seller that made jewelry. Sent them the A and their response was "yes we can!what mm would you like"? Haven't heard from them since, so I assume they have gotten busy. My point is, I get the hint u might entertain that thought..haha

Just heard back from insurance. They valued the car at nearly 6500, which pays off my loan without touching the gap insurance, even if I keep the car, and I should be able to get my deductible back from the other guys policy. It's turning out better than I would have hoped!

So I sent the white one to the shop for a pre-purchase inspection. The stability system code is from both of the rear wheel speed sensors. The airbag code it's giving is B0017 - Passenger airbag front loop open. Other misc problems: it has a leaky valve cover gaskets, and a leaky power steering pressure hose.
So the main concern is the airbag code. Does anyone have any guidance as to the connections to check on the passenger airbag, and how easy/difficult they are to get to? I might get the car, and I don't know if they'll fix that first. I rarely have passengers, but it will get annoying clearing the DIC every time I start the car. I know I can do the rear hubs easy enough.

Do you live somewhere with vehicle inspections? I wouldn't take a vehicle off the lot if it wouldn't pass state inspection. That being said I would have the air bag and power steering fixed as a condition of purchase. Rear wheel hubs are cake. If they are private party not going to happen but I would factor that into repair cost and deduct from asking.

Washington only has to handle emissions, otherwise I might be a bit concerned about the tint as well. Definitely planning to negotiate them down or have them fix the airbag. Good point on having them handle the steering too, though I do have the 2002 I could pull a good hose from, and use it to talk them down. I'll call them today and try to push them towards fixing it.

Ended up settling on the white one. I wasn't really able to talk them down on it, and they didn't do any repairs, but I had to get something, and I refused to settle for less than an Aurora. Showroom thread here
