Was wandering around the board and caught Randy's thread on his 4.6 installation in a classic Aurora. This in particular caught my eye ... aurorah.proboards.com/thread/26586/97-aurora-4-6-installation?page=4I believe the appropriate response should be ... ... or possibly ... YIKES! A bunch of other folk posting up with the same experience doesn't exactly help my peace of mined either ... So ... the question ... can these bushings be replaced without removing the sub frame? Not sure how far you'd have to drop it, or how much slack there is in the plumbing and connections, or what all would be required to make it happen. PS ... haven't a clue what condition mine are in ... '99 with 120K Michigan miles on it ... so I have concerns ...

You will at least have to lower the subframe to swap them AFAIK. The rubber on mine seem to still be in good condition. Though I live in the rust belt my '96 has not really ever seen winters with salt. When/if the time comes I think I would try to swap with polyurethane.

Sall, I think the question is can this be done without "dropping" the subframe. ie: can it be done by loosening everything and then lowering one side at a time enough to change the bushings out. This was how I changed body/subframe bushings on my Z/28. Have no idea if it is possible on an Aurora.

So, it CAN be done without removing the sub frame ... and it CAN be done without disconnecting all the plumbing and electrics?
(Excuse me if I'm being obtuse ... it's a way of life for some of us ...) <G>
Be PERFECT if I could just drop one side at a time far enough to git er done ... wasn't aware there'd be that much flex in the mounts.

Yes you can do it by lowering one side at a time. You do need to loosen the other side to allow for some movement. Be sure to support everything , body and the sub-frame with jack-stands. I almost killed myself doing this on a old Lumina by supporting the sub-frame with a floor jack only that let go unexpectedly. You need to get about 3" of clearance and their is no problem with the plumbing or wiring. Loosen the frame bolts by hand and not a impact wrench or you take the chance of breaking the "cage Nut" and creating a new job bigger than bushing replacement. Rust is an issue with these G cars at the frame mounts ( I live in Buffalo ) , Michigan may be similar. Good luck Your Aurora will feel better with new mounts and if you are getting a Thunk on corners this should take care of it. Rich
