I purchased apart from RockAuto which is my left front inner fender. Their part number is GM1248157. When I received my part today it was folded in half and stuffed into a short box. It is not at all close to OEM quality! It is extremely thin and flimsy! It is made in Taiwan and very cheaply made. I called and spoke to the returns department who said that just because it said part number GM1248157 did not mean that it is an OEM piece. WOW, what a load! Now granted the price was reasonable but...not for the poor quality that it is and also it now has a bend in it from the shipping. They will accept a return but not pay the shipping. It will cost me twice as much as the part and I will have no part in hand.
BE VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN DEALING WITH ROCKAUTO!

That does suck. I might email them later with a link to your story and give them a hard time. Tell them their return policy cost em a sale. My 97, 98 and 68 always need something. FWIW, I have had good luck with hub bearings, a radiator, control arms and......I am sure a few other things. They can't stick it to you though, that isn't fair.

Something like a fender liner I would grab from a salvage yard. I recently bought an AC Delco waterpump belt tensioner from them. The casting is stamped "Made in Canada" the bearing....is Chinese. That's actually on AC Delco, but just an example of how hard it is to find quality American made parts nowadays.
On a side note I will be moving this thread to the subforum "products and services"

I sent Rock Auto a letter of disappointment. I did not cuss them out. Heck, I asked if they had a "their side" to it. I also told them I was embarrassed because as a happy customer I normally recommended them to folks.
Not sure if it will help. Maybe it will help the next guy but it made me feel good.

that stinks. Yeah, for odd parts like that where there is no NOS to be found, I would definitely find one from a salvage yard. I use 3 sites when I'm looking for parts... RockAuto, eBay, and Amazon and use them to cross reference parts.

It is made by 'Various MFR'. I don't see where they represented it as original equipment www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=952277&jnid=301&jpid=0The only issue I have had with RockAuto was shipping two struts in one original box to 'save on shipping'. Had I returned them that way I would have certainly been hassled, most likely... probably.

It also states Alternate/OEM Part number which would lead me to believe it is not NOS.

Interesting. Hopefully they'll sort it out so you're satisfied. I did have to return a bearing once and they were good about it.
Overall I've been happy with them. Only thing I was a little iffy about was 'wholesaler closeout' plug wires I bought for my '97. They were NOS GM wires, but literally NOS as in made in the '90s. They were a steal so I decided to run them. No issues in ~3 yrs, but I did feel weird about putting on a consumable like that since they were almost as old as the car!

I needed a hood strut, and paid a couple bucks more for the Monroe (since that IS what Monroe does), and thus a couple bucks less than the ACDelco. It sounds like that was the smart plan, and indeed I've had no trouble with the strut.
