Did you confirm this with a multimeter? If so I would hook up 20-30 amps with subs, that might help. But seriously, could be your alternator going bad or possibly a thermosistor, but I don't know if the thermosistor could cause this problem. Thermosistor is hooked to the battery, it's a little red thing with wires, grab it and pull on it to make sure wires are secure.

Same problem before new alternator? New/rebuilt non GM alternators can cause problems in our cars, I prefer used OEM over parts stores. I would not assume new alternator is good.

Overvoltage is pretty much a bad voltage regulator which is part of the alternator. I don't believe there is anything external to the alternator that could cause that. Bad thermistor will cause low voltage at startup and "check charge system" warning. Verify voltage with a meter, don't rely on dash reading. If it's really that high, alternator is not good.

On a whim I had Advanced Auto check a replacement alternator I bought a few years back before I took it home. It was bad. Went to another one of their stores, another failed bench test.
Got a good one from O'Reilly's. It failed in 10 months.
Verify your readings with a multi meter.
Verify your new alternator is good.
