The fuse in the car cord for my Garmin 205W blew. I thought that there was a short in the cord. But before I bought another one, I decided to get a new fuse first. The car cord then worked OK. Why, then, did the fuse blow in the first place?

Possibly a voltage fluctuation went a little bit high for a little bit too long, and the Garmin drew more power as a result, blowing the fuse? As voltage raises up, a device will tend to draw more wattage, creating more heat, and I know I've seen voltages fluctuate up to the low 15s in all 3 of the 2G cars I've had. If the unit is designed around say 14 volts, this could be a problem.
Another possibility is maybe a manufacturing fault in the fuse, causing it to blow under less current.
All in all, I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it happens again.
