I'm usually pretty bold about tearing into a project but recently trying to remove the door panels in a Ford I broke all of the clips because the Ford panels don't push in and they lift up. I don't want to do that again on my Aurora so I'm looking for advice.

I don't know about the 2G--I've never even sat in one, much less taken anything apart on one--but the classic is super easy. You just have to undo a couple of screws and lift the panel straight up. There aren't any clips.

No screws for the 2G.
Remove the door handle bezel, everything else is clips...

I was especially concerned about the wood switch trim ahead of the handle. It Didn't want to come up. Busted that on my truck too by forcing the wrong end. I'm not sure if I did it the RIGHT way but I cut the front edge lifted up (clip fell off induced the door somewhere), then the back moved rearward until clear of the slot it hooks into.
Anyways that's when I stopped.
By "clips" do you mean steel clips that push straight in? Is it best to pry with a door clip tool, or try to get my fingers under the edges & yank straight back?

Remove the door handle bezel... It should be noted that even that little part comes off a certain way. There's a clip at the front but the back is a tab in a slot. I have to take the panel of to test a door mirror I bought off ebay before having it painted. I think I'll shoot a video the second time when I mount it.

once you Remove the door handle beze. you have to pull the door panel towards you might need to use like pry tool or screw driver to release the clips once they release you need to pull towards ur self and up at same time.

Whoever designed the door panels for the "classic" should get an award. Remove the door handle panel, two screws on the bottom, and the clips are L shaped - just lift a half inch or so and pull the panel straight away. Couldn't be easier.
I imagine one similarity with the Gen II is the multitude of wires that need to be disconnected before removing the panel. I've always found it's handy to have a 5 gallon bucket to set the panel on once it's loose so you can do the disconnects without putting undue (undo?<G>) stress on the harness.

Yeah classic door panels are very easily removed. You can even leave them in place hanging from the L shaped clips.

There is more then enough space to remove the panel and then disconnect the harness not hard at all. I think most easy for me was Intrigue 3 screws and panel comes up very easy.

At one time or another I've taken the door panels off every car and truck I've ever owned and the 2G Aurora was by far the most difficult. The door handle was the most puzzling. They are always attached solidly to the structure behind, but I couldn't see or feel how it was attached in the Aurora. I finally got it removed without breaking anything, although the steel clip on the wood switch plate vanished without a trace.

I dont think 2g is hard. Cars like Maxima Altima Mazda lexus etc has 20 screws then you have to remove almost all the parts from the door to get the panel off here you only release clips and pull . 2g made kinda same as BMW. Some older bmws had exactly same setup clips and the metal clips where the handle is.

Doesn't everyone refer to these "clips" as "Christmas trees"?

Guy mentioned the ' wood switch trim ' mine is loose should I ignore it, or pull door panel apart to fix it ? Cutting the clip was mentioned, but am unsure what was meant .

Every clip and plastic retainer is engineered to slide the panel up. Once I saw that it saved the clips for re-use! Here are the steps: 1) open the door, take the interior handle and snap off the handle bezel, and let the handle return to neutral _inside_ the panel out of the way. 2)Take the tweeter speaker assembly and pull straight out, unplug or let it hang 3)bump the bottom left of the panel, then the bottom right so the panel travels up vertically flush with the door
That's it!
If you just need to replace the regulator motor for the window, its in the bottom middle, so just peel away the vapor barrier there, three screws and its out.

How do I replace the window switch panel on 97 aurora, do I have to remove the whole door panel Follow the beginning of this thread to get the door panel off, you will need to remove it to get the switch out. aurorah.proboards.com/thread/18371You will see the switch in the door panel once it is off. There are wire connectors on the back that you need to remove and then I think the switch is just held in with plastic tabs.
