While I was visiting my parents over Thanksgiving, Dad told me my '64 Dynamic 88 convertible is coming along nicely with a complete rebuild on the brakes. His buddy who's working on it has the engine full of Marvel Mystery Oil and is turning it over a little bit every day to get the engine loosened up after sitting for more than 30 years. It won't be a showpiece when it reaches my hands--the rear bumper needs to be re-chromed, there's some rust starting on the doors and the door panels have some moisture damage and a new top will be in its not-to-distant future. A replacement set of door panels is in the trunk but they're tan and the interior is dark green so they'll need to be dyed. There's no definite time frame for the mechanical work to be completed so I can pick up the car, but it's close enough that I need to start looking into putting up a carport for it. I've been waiting to get my hands on this car since 1978 so I figure I can hold out just a little longer.
I know, I know, y'all want to see pictures and I'll post them as soon as I get an opportunity to take some but I haven't seen the car since 2004.

Who cares if its not in perfect condition, its an old Olds, a classic and probably nicer and more showroom quality than other new cars on the road today! Just fix it as little bit as you can and have fun and enjoy it. Anyways congrats on your acquisition and hopefully you can go out and drive it soon, and your Aurora needs another sibling to keep her company.

The car has been in my family since I was 14 years old. Dad bought it from a friend of his for a whopping $350 with the idea of fixing it up for me to drive when I got my license at 16. That didn't happen; in fact, it just sat in the garage until I got out of college, at which point Dad got it painted and put a new black top on it, then put it back into the garage until he sold the house in 2014. It's been sitting at his friend's place under a heavy tarp ever since. Whenever I replace the top, it'll be going back to the original white to match the body color. So it's been a few months since I've checked in. The '64 Dynamic 88 is almost ready to come home. Dad says it's running and "yard drivable", which I guess means you can move it around in the yard but it isn't quite road ready. Of course, I really need it to be in the latter category; I have no need of a yard ornament. Nonetheless, I've ordered a freestanding metal carport to put it under and I'm waiting for the building permit from the city so I can have it installed.
Meanwhile, the Aurora hasn't moved since I got it inspected in December so I could renew the plate. It's sitting on two flat tires and I can't get the metal valve caps off. Once the semester ends in a week and a half and I have some time on my hands, I'm going to cut/grind them off with a Dremel tool.

Man, building permit for a freestanding carport? You putting water, gas, and electric in that thing? Haha, and I thought my municipality was bad...
Anyway, looking forward to seeing a few pics of the old gal, don't forget us!
As for the valve caps, seriously, propane torch. Google it!

No, just a freestanding prefab metal structure. Hopefully, that'll come through this week and I can move forward with the project. I'll definitely post some photos of the '64 whenever I get it here. The last time I saw the car was in 2004.
I did get one valve cap off the Aurora today with the Dremel tool, so I was able to drive the car this afternoon for the first time in almost five months.

Maybe you should get yourself a 2 car carport for your Olds, so they both are protected!Awesome that your getting it soon. Maybe when its done, your able to drive it to the Olds show in June, if your car can drive that far? What is your future plans with your Aurora? I bet driving the Aurora made you feel a lil great driving it down the road, theres nothing like an Olds really!

I'd love to have a two-car carport but I don't have enough width; in fact, I may not have enough width for a one-car carport. My application for a building permit for the free-standing metal carport got rejected by the city because it has to be five feet from the house and I don't have that much space. I'm now thinking an attached carport might be a better, albeit more expensive, option. Gotta find a contractor and get an estimate. It was nice driving the Aurora yesterday, although it was a bit warm without air conditioning. I can't keep refrigerant in it. And of course, the low oil pressure issue has never been resolved. I haven't really decided what I want to do with the Aurora long term. I may end up selling it to help pay for the carport. Given all the trouble and lack of enjoyment I've had with the car the past couple years, I think that if I had it to do over again, I would have sold the Aurora in 2014 when I got the Impala and kept the '97 LSS instead.
