Next on my journey to fixing the various problems on my car is the rear shocks. PO replaced the air shocks with conversion shocks (lines cut, pump runs but I don't know if it actually works). Those newer shocks are now shot so I'm at a crossroads--restore to original or just replace the Monroe conversions with new.
Which is actually the better ride?

I'll take the MA822s or replacement ACDelco over conversion kit any day.

^X2! Or maybe a pair of Excel-Gs if you're feeling "sporty"...
Never heard a sparkling review of the load assist conversion shocks...

I'll take the MA822s or replacement ACDelco over conversion kit any day. That's what I was hoping to hear. They're cheaper then OEM, cheaper then the conversion shocks, and better than both. What's not to like? Do I recall reading that hose replacement is not possible--crimped to the pump or something? Is there some tiny inline splice for my cut lines that will connect to whatever tubing fits the Monroes?

Monroe AK29 and a couple compression unions from the hardware store and you should be golden...

Will the spaghetti-thin OEM tubing fit these Monroes? The AK29 kit tube looks way larger. Or is it more common to not hook up to the compressor?

As I recall, the lines in the kit are the same size as the OE lines, and the connector is the same as well. All you should have to do is run the lines, cut to length, and join the ends to your remaining lines!
FWIW, I used that kit (including the fill valve) a couple years ago while I combed the pull-a-part for a working replacement compressor. It served it's purpose, but manual fill is a pain!

I recently bought ACD air shock kit. The hose is the sane size srews on to shock (no clip) (You ave to splice the hose( The stocks are a larger diameter than the original but it us explained in the instructions...fairly easy installation. They give you enough spaghetti to do a clean installation without ELC. ( but why would you want to? Unless you have to)

On my MarkVIII the air ride is a goofy complicated system I did a conversion when they went bad and haven't touched them since.
The Aurora uses readily available shocks and has a simple, solid control system. There are not 10101101 threads on here about ppl coming out in the morning to find they have a low rider.
I'd stay OEM on the Aurora.

Correct part # would be GM19299843; AC Delco 504-165. But the product info does say that the AC 504-547 'will fit'.
Wonder what this is all about, haha,...

I have a good parts store, but in the future, I'm going to have to get more info about what's in stock and what needs to be ordered, as I usually want it NOW, but with this car I would wait for special order parts...Also when i mentioned that I only needed shocks, he said 'buy the kit it's cheaper'.so i fid..
