Safety! !!! I'm not gonna preach! !!!! BUT yesterday i had a good friend of mine do some stuff to himself, while working on his daughter's car(routine brake job! it fell off scissor jack, no jack stands, poorly blocked tires! He neglectd to use the proper tools and techniques for the task at hand! This is the price he had to pay! and he does know better! Please be careful and safe!!!

Do not ever never ever trust a jack, no matter how good it is, to hold up a car while you are working it. Always use jack stands! I hope your friend recovers soon.

But it was one of those "i've done it like THAT for years" things! He told me that he should have taken me up on my offer for assistance! But he didn't want to bother me! .....Thanks, He should be OK with time!!!!! I think his "Pride" suffered more than his arm!!!! And i think he learned a valuable lesson! I can only hope he did! !!!

Just glad he's still around to tell the story! That could have been a lot worse.. as bad as it is already. I always put the car on jack stands or ramps if I'm working with any part of me under it. And if you put it up on jack stands give it a good shake to make sure it's sturdy. Better to find out when you are next to the car rather than under it!

Sorry to hear that. It is certainly a hard way to learn a lesson. Hopefully he makes a speedy recovery.

Ouch, a graphic reminder good for us all to see!
How is he doing? Is that just a deep disgusting flesh wound or what am I seeing?

I talked to him yesterday! He said "sore but he'll be OK". I talked to his son , yesterday, he said"it's just a flesh wound" and that the hospital didn't even do x-rays! .....yeah, i posted this in hopes of sparing anyone else this fate, or worse! .....in the immortal words of Monty Python " it's JUST a mere Flesh Wound"!!! and as my dad would say "walk it off" !!!

I use bottle jacks under the frame, cement blocks with wood and old fashioned jack stands all as a precaution. I've heard of and known of shade tree mechanics losing their lives under a car. Problem is we all get in a hurry sometimes. Better to slow down for safety.

Fortunately, I learned from seeing a car fall off a bumper jack not more than a minute after the person working on it had gone into the house. I was 7 or 8 when that happened, but I will never forget seeing that car fall. I told myself then that would never happen to me.
Was one of the lucky ones that learned about drinking and driving without killing anyone too..
A friend was trying to stop me from driving at the end of a long drunk weekend, and I was trying to get him off the hood of my car Hollywood stunt man style so I could go home... I only remember pieces of that scenario to this day, but that was the last time I ever got drunk. Waking up the next morning and realizing that I could have easily killed one of my best friends was all it took.
Yes I do realize how lucky I am!!!
Hopefully your friend has learned without having to lose more than he already has...
