I did the switch cleaning, solved it for a while and now its back and so bad that the battery is sure to be dead. Picknpull does not have any aurora within 200 miles ( knoxville ).
I have not disassembled the switch...yet. That seems like more trouble than it is worth, although that is my next step if there are absolutely no alternatives aside from just unplugging the LCM ( which I did, but now it gets dark early ).
I was wondering if there is a certain wire from the switch to the LCM that could be cut to disable the auto head light turn on, but still maintain manual headlight on/off ? ( assuming this would resolve the problem. ).

I did the switch cleaning, solved it for a while and now its back. If at first you don't succeed ... ;-} I'd try the switch cleaning again and this time work it longer. A few spritzes of cleaner isn't gonna help much unless you "exercise" the switch some while it's wet to wipe the corrosion off the contacts. I also recommend using DeOxit D5 on the low setting for the job. Really good stuff. Als owondering if you "exercised" the headlight override switch when you cleaned things the first time. Truth be told, I didn't even know I had such a thing until my lighting system got haunted. Now I spin that every now and then just to make sure it stays clean. Been a couple years now since I went thru all that with no problems since. Luck wit it, eh.

Yah I had tried cleaning it once more, way more aggressively with the contact cleaner after the issue reappeared and it didn't even alleviate the issue. I also did rotate the switch around and spray each interval several times ( both cleanings ). My fear with disassembling the switch is that I am SOL if things go south. I'll give the DeOxit a try once I get a hold of some. For the time being I just have a quick disconnect on the battery, which is more just an annoyance at this point. Otherwise once I'm home, I will pay a visit to the picknpull which happens to have 1 aurora that would work with my 98. Thanks for the input!

Are all the lights flickering, or only in a certain area?

I have not disassembled the switch...yet. That seems like more trouble than it is worth, although that is my next step if there are absolutely no alternatives aside from just unplugging the LCM ( which I did, but now it gets dark early ). I was wondering if there is a certain wire from the switch to the LCM that could be cut to disable the auto head light turn on, but still maintain manual headlight on/off ? ( assuming this would resolve the problem. ). I apologize for not seeing this before. You can disable the auto headlights by connecting the two wires for the light sensor (middle of the dash by the windshield) together. Unfortunately though, I don't think that would solve the problem as the flickering is coming from the multifunction switch itself or essentially, the manual switch is the problem and causing the flickering. I had my little procedure, which appears to be what you already tried. Also keep checking eBay because I saw one on there just the other day. Alternatively, you can unplug the left connector on the LCM. Under the dash, remove the black plastic kick guard on bottom (3 screws), to the left of the steering column (near the emergency brake)you will see two boxes mounted vertically to a plastic bracket back to back with connectors facing the floor, the box on the right (if looking towards the front of the car) is the LCM. If you unplug the left connector, lights wont flash. The switch will also be non-functional except for the turn signal and flash to pass features. I/e if you need to drive at night you'll have to plug it back in while you drive, but is normal functioning during the day. Clearly not a permanent solution, but it will get you by until you can locate a switch. I had cleaned my switch out and it didn't work at first, tried again and it worked for about 3 years until it came back. I got a replacement from the salvage yard....I expect I'll run into the same problem again with that one at some point. Maybe I'll try disassembling it that time. If you can't locate a switch though, I'm afraid that's probably what you're in for. Good luck.

I appreciate the response. I was gonna goto the picknpull in IL once I go home, since they had a 98 or 99, but that is since gone. I've seen a few on ebay, though they are all $200+ for no guarantee it'll fix the issue. Ironically they all seem to be from the Chicagoland area. I may give that a shot though and use it as a backup in-case disassembling the switch turns out to be the complete end of the switch. I've also had it unplugged, but since it is winter now it gets dark fairly early and plugging/unplugging that thing is a PITA sort of. For now I just have a quick disconnect on the battery that seems to be working. It sucks because other than that the majority of the car runs great.

Yeah, the Hammond and Summit yards have been sparse on Auroras lately. They used to have 5-10 to choose from each. I wish they would keep them around when they get them but they don't seem to let them hang around longer than a couple months. I'm glad I haven't needed any parts recently (knock on wood). Funny I was going to snag a fuel line from that '98 in Summit not two weeks ago and you are right, it's since been removed from inventory.

There's a new bone yard in Chicago. Its on 31st street and St. Louis ave. Its a pick and pull also. On the plus side, the entire yard is paved with asphalt. No gravel! And they always have Aurora's for some reason LOL ;-)
