So, as the title states... I installed the rear KYB shocks and needless to say, those made me happy. Installed the KYB loaded struts up front and I'm not happy. They feel like I'm riding on solid rubber tires and my suspension now feels loose. Wasn't a complicated install. 3 bolts up top, two bolts at the bottom and finally to 2 bolts for the lines. Easy peasy... Now, it feels like a rough ride and it also now feels like my front end is loose. Did I miss something? I've heard nothing but ok things about KYB lol Was I supposed to release the strut? I haven't driven the car since the install...

WHAT?!?! I LOVE my KYBs!
Might be time for sway bar bushings and endlinks, new control arms w/ball joints, and new inner and outer tie rod ends.
The ride should be firm, not rough, and the handling should be crisp and responsive. It's FE3, man! LOL!

Yes. A front end alignment. According to pg. 3-41 of the 2001 FSM.............................

my alignment is true... the car doesn't pull left or right. I notice one side seems more soft or has more play. I know in strut replacement, the shaft needs to be released. Is that the case with these KYB struts? I thought they were jus plug and play.

Okay, so I never bothered checking every single component. It turns out that I completely missed the fact that I was missing the driver side and Link bushings. And there you have it folks, that's what gave my ride such a loose feel. But now, I'm afraid that with the end link bushing being gone, it may have ruined my passenger side lower control arm :-(

Hey Roo, did you use the SR4090 "Strut Plus" (complete assembly) or just the Excel-G strut and your old spring and mount?
My Strut Plus assemblies came fully extended. Just jacked up the car until the tires were off the ground (old struts fully extended), set my stands, pulled the wheels, and swapped out the assemblies. Like you said, "easy peasy", right? Maybe not...
It may not make any difference at all, but it's how I was taught, and it's what I've always done... Put the shock/strut under load BEFORE you torque any of the mounting hardware! I used a jack and block of wood under the control arm to raise the car just off of the jackstand. Torque it, repeat for other side!

Hey Tigger, I use the complete strut the sr40 90. I compared them to the stock struts before I put them on the car and they were the same height so I figured they were already extended. Although I did make the mistake and I didn't tighten them under load. I'll probably loosen up the top bolts and tighten them up again. I get a strange knocking noise from the driver side now. Hopefully that'll help it go away.
