Ok, I sprung for this Damn thing and it won't work. On either car! So what am I doing wrong?
Instructions:
Insert key and turn to on position but do not crank
Wait for programmer to buzz or red light to come on
Press and hold lock and unlock simultaneously until programmer buzz or door locks cycle
Rinse, repeat...
So I plug it in, it beeps, the lights flash and then nothing. 1 minute later it beeps and flashes again but won't learn! I've tried this on my 01 V8 and my 03 V8 and no success. It does the same in both cars. Need some help here please....

If memory serves me right, these "Roras" have to have the keys programed thru the dealer...no other way around it.

Not trying to program the key. Trying to get the key fob reprogrammed. As far as the key is concerned, you can get a PK3 blank and have it cut and it is actually very easy to have it programmed.

If memory serves me right, these "Roras" have to have the keys programed thru the dealer...no other way around it. You can do keys yourself, if you have a working master key (this won't work with a valet key)... Buy a PASS-Key III (PK3) blank online and have it cut to match your working key at any local locksmith, hardware store etc. Insert your working key, and turn to ON (Do not crank) When SECURITY light goes out, remove working key Within 10 seconds, insert new key and start engine Roo, some early '01s used FCC ID: KOBUT1BT/KOBUT1BR (last letter T=transmitter, R=receiver). Later '01s, and all '02/'03s used FCC ID: KOBLEAR1XT/KOBLEAR1XR. Make sure the transmitter(s) FCC ID matches the receiver FCC ID for each vehicle. The recietver is in the trunk, mounted to the underside of the package tray... If all of that is good to go, IIRC, you have to have all doors closed and locked before you do anything else. You didn't mention it in your list of instructions. If you are doing that, I stumped... I've used this product on three different vehicles, my own included, all without issue. GL

Did you make sure the FCC IDs match?
You can check the transmitters' (fobs') function and signal strength at a lot of parts stores. But I'd imagine at least the one that came with the programmer should work.
Also find it hard to believe that both of your receivers could be bad, but it's possible. Need a Tech 2 to check though. Have you ever had a working fob for either vehicle?
And, of course, the programmer itself could be bad out of the box. You could try returning/exchanging it, not sure how that would go...
I just don't know what else it could be, bud.

I have 1 working key fob for my maroon 2G and non for the Steel blue 2G. The doorman won't program anything for either car. The fcc ID's match. I'm kind of pissed because this thing cost me $80...

This is why I like the Classic, just jam a wire in two pins of the OBD connector and you're off programming lol

Haha, we just picked up a 2010 Tahoe, guess how you add remotes on that PK3+ system... Through the DIC! Olds could've done that, and yeah, I would have even been happier with the jumper wire set-up. Again, nice work on the last Aurora GM!

Just bought and tried my own Dorman programmer and it too failed. Going to try with all the doors closed but it looks like this may be a bust of a purchase. Fortunately, I got permission from the store manager to return it if it didnt work.
Edit- No go. The receiver in the OBD port just flashes and buzzes at me without it working. I may call Dorman on Monday but I doubt that will do anything.

Hey! Me too, lol! Where you at? I think Paul was offering the use of his Tech II, if you were close enough,haha... But he's right, need to put a capable scan tool on it to see if everything is in order. Or, last resort, and it kills me to say this, take it to the dealer.

On a positive note, I *did* get my two spare blank keys cut at the hardware store and programmed them in less than a minute thanks to your instructions. Great win last night btw.

@tanner. The Dorman programmer only gives you three tries how to program a key fob. In other words it only works three times. I called Dorman for assistance and they told me it's not going to work . I guess this is how they get you to keep on buying their programmers LOL
@ Paul. What programmer do you have? What brand and model if you don't mind me asking? I have 3 remotes and two cars. I found a dealer near me that charges 75 to program the fob but, I need to do it on two cars so that would have cost me 150. I might as well buy a capable scanner.

I'm always going to Columbia for some reason or another. The Pull a Part there has a 99 Aurora that's been there since November 5th. I keep watching for a 2nd Gen model or a Toronado to show up.

Fortunately, I didn't loose money on it. I warranty replaced the one I bought. Brand spanking new. Tried it and got nothing. When I spoke to Dorman, they said it was timing out. I was able to get a full refund. Unfortunately, that means a trip to the local GM dealership... probably going to have to get a second mortgage to afford reprogramming these fobs.

So, I have a coworker who has a Snap-On Modis scanner. I hadn't spoken with him until tonight and in exchange for a case of P.B.R., I have 3 working key fobs now! Total cost for a pair of keys and new fobs= $63.
Lessons learned? Dorman programmers suck and you DONT have to go to a dealer with a Tech 2. You just have to have a mechanic friend who has a good scanner.
