Dropped the my pan and filter on my 2002 3.5L and found this mess in the trans pan. The car only has 88K for milage? Is that a normal amount of clutch wear for that millage? Or is the this trans burned thou all of it's clutchs? The fluid was plenty dark but is not burnt and the trans seems to be ok. Attachments:

The pan itself looks fine. Scary thing is, my 130k transmission filter job I just did looked the same as yours.... you may have premature wear. Is this the first trans service on the car?

Mine was actually worse than that and my car is an 01 Aurora with 169,000 on it as long as there are no thick chunks and you replaced the filter and made sure gasket was sealed just drain every 30,000 plus use dexron III or 6 if you live in high temp areas like I do in FLA the heat makes engine run harder burning up atf faster

I don't know if that was the first trans service or not. Picked up the car from an auction, service history unknown. Trans is still doing ok, no issues. How is both your trans doing?

New ATF fluid has a lot of detergents in it, so it likely "knocked" some stuff lose. If it was that bad, and now your not moving, I would drop the pan again and refill with new fluid and two bottles of that Lucus stuff trans stuff. What do you have to lose at this point? But I would start adding to the piggy bank, it's dead or close to death.

Yea that's what someone else said as well better start saving cuz sounds like she on her way out but I did find good price for torque converter 200$ but my issue I don't have a lift I could use 4 jack stands and make a make shift one but I don't even have anything to drop transmission on because I can do it myself few bolts bam converter is out but not without the equipment lol

And my trans is *okay* I say that with some restrictions. At low speeds the shift from 1st to 2nd can be a very very aggressive shift and shake the whole car, and sometimes when doing high acceleration, the later part of a shift with flutter. But thats usually from 2 to 3.

I should clarify, my car has a code for the input speed shaft sensor so that might be causing some of these issues.
