I'm just seeing if anyone has had this issue before. Daughter took the Aurora up the road and was waiting to turn left and when the other car pass she tried turning the steering wheel and she said it would not move. She said it was like stuck and wouldn't turn either way. She turned the car off. Waited a minute and turned it back on and the steering was fine.
Has anyone run across this before?
We had a left wheel bearing replaced about a year ago and I've noticed a noise coming from around the left wheel area. I figured that wheel bearing will have to be replaced again. Just not sure if that figures into what happened with the steering. Maybe the wheel bearing is fine but maybe an axle shaft or axle shaft bearing? Something is making a noise when you are driving it.

Sound to me like Crank sensors did she notice that the engine shut off? i dont think steering will get stuck with car on it might be harder to turn but not stuck.

My guess: the rack.

Still possible the engine had stalled & driver didn't notice.

I was thinking the car also died but she was almost certain the engine was still running. She said it was making noise (she means the engine was making noise indicating it was running) and when she shut the car off the noise stopped and then she started the car back up again.
I drove the car and the steering seemed fine.
I did take the car in for the left front noise and found out the wheel bearing we replaced 1 year ago has gone bad. I'm working with the shop to replace the wheel bearing again.

Good possibility your steering pump could be failing. Also maybe belt slip... How old are your belts? Stability control may have kicked in...
Hub bearing would lock up your steering. I went with moog hub bearings...

Hub bearing was bad. It was replaced under warranty but I had to kick in some money. I was glad I didn't have to pay the full bill.
I do have a blown boot on the left CV joint. That's about $300 to replace. I will get that done and the car needs new back tires. I will see what's recommended for tires. Currently have Michelin tires on it but the guy showed me where they were cracking from dry rot. He said Michelin tires will do that with the Carbon Black they use. He did say Michelin might give a discount if I showed them a picture and have the receipt from buying them since the of the tire was still good.

Has anyone change the rack and pinion on a 2003 Aurora? Did my '01 a couple years ago, same thing. What do you need? May want to start a separate thread...
