I replaced the stock speakers in the 3.5 over the weekend. They really sounded like garbage. Has anyone noticed that the mounting to the grill prevents a good seal between the speaker? This really limits the usable bass that the speakers produce, as air just leaks past the front bezel of the speakers. I'm wondering if the bose system has the same crappy mounting (any experience?)... Has anyone found any good spacers that can fit there to improve the door speaker performance?

Yup, same mountings locations. I have the BOSE equipped system, but my speakers have a foam gasket between speaker and grill bezel. Try that and that will help just a bit. A little bit. Good Luck budd...

Thanks. I don't think that the foam will do much due to the bezel arrangement on the speakers I have. I might see if I can get some plastic and cut out an opening for the speaker. I would mount the speaker to the plastic then mount the plastic to the grill. Maybe that would help.
