Hi all, I was interested in double-din head units for the Aurora, but it seems as though the highest rated, most responsive displays are 7". I saw on the threads that it is possible to make it fit (with modifications). My questions are: A) What is the difficulty of installation (for a semi-competent installer) B) How bad are the negative aesthetic affects caused by trimming the plastic around the head unit?
Thanks for the help!

Difficulty 2/10.
None if the time is taken.

Depth will be your biggest issue. I've been researching the same thing recently. You'll likely need to cut the bracket behind the stock radio in order to get something to fit without sticking out too far. I had a double din 6.5" DVD player that I contemplated putting in one of the Auroras... But I put it into the Impala instead. Probably going to get a shallower unit without a disc player for each Aurora.
The stock base systems are pretty bad at anything but low volume, as they don't have much power and just push mids when you crank the volume.

had no issue putting head unit. All you have to do just move the plug that inside the car behind plastic bracket. if you remove the center counsel you will have more room for wires and hide them only thing i cut is front bezel . so any unit will fit with nothing need to be cut behind.

Does anybody have experience with the Pioneer AVH-4200NEX? The reviews look decent, but there are so many radios it's hard to choose. The one thing about this that I am unsure about is it's fit with the motorized display. Any tips for what to do after trimming the bezel so that it still looks nice afterwards? I was hoping to avoid a "I just had to shave some of this away" look.

I prefer JVC Head units . First because they have detachable face plate so no one will bother taking the radio from the car and interface and options i like more then others.Installed pioneer for my moms aurora not so happy with interface etc but she ok with it. i would take sony over pioneer i would go to any car audio store just to play around with the units on display or best buy might have some as well.

Most people will say to go for a Kenwood or Alpine... But I'd recommend Sony. I've had an older 7" touchscreen in my Intrigue for 10 years and it has been awesome. I got a new Sony head unit with a 6.5" screen and android auto for the Impala (which I briefly considered putting in one of the Auroras). The interface seems to be way more polished than the competition. And the screen just looks fantastic. But if you do want advanced features, like time alignment or surround upscaling, look elsewhere (my 10 yr old unit has this, the new one does not).

I use Sony always as well. Although since the Android Oreo update my Sony (2013 model) has been having trouble keeping the bluetooth connection. Might just be time to upgrade. Besides that issue I've never had any problems with Sony and it seems to be more of an Android Oreo issue as my girlfriend's phone and my brother's phone (android and iphone) have no problems keeping connected.
