Try changing the trans oil & filter first. There's a chance that could help. And do you have a 4.0 or 3.5?

And do you have a 4.0 or 3.5? 3.5 and that's what I was thinking because she makes no noise until gets to temp and thats when the fluid turns black...before she gets to temp she runs fine so I'm going to get under her today and drain what I can from the pan and check filter and gasket and then try and get the rest out but I don't know how to get the rest out!!

And not really sure best spot to jack it up left side or right side and middle...or should I just jack it up in the same spot I used to change my front brakes...I no longer have access to jack stands so I don't want her 3000lb ass falling on me lol!

Your best bet is to jack it up in the middle, and use jack stands! Even better yet, use ramps.

Figure in the cost of how many quarts of fluid and all pluss call around and get estimates. Oil changes I do myself for some reason. Transmission fluid I've taken to letting the shop do.

Ramps/jack stands are very cheap at wal-mart. I wouldn't do any work under the car without one or the other.

Yea they charge ridiculous price here just to drop the pan is 200 and then obviously to replace the filter and gasket cover the cheapest was like 500 I said screw that but I jacked her up I backed her all the way up to the parking stop bumb as weight behind the tires so she didn't roll backwards and when I got underneath her omg lol I'll send pics....and I like you guys to with out you all I'd be screwed because people around here don't know ******* about this car even the mechanics most of them anyways

Yea I have changed my rear shocks and my front brakes and rotors with just the jack and weight behind the tires but I was at a quick spot where I could bail out if I had to but with the trans being in the middle it's a very uncomfortable feeling

So in other words very unsafe without stands or ramps because I have neither and no access to any ABSOLUTELY SPEND THE MONEY ON RAMPS OR JACKSTANDS!!!! I yelled because some years ago, when I lived in Upstate NY, a neighbor of mine died when his truck, a Toyota Tundra, fell on him when the jack he was using without ramps collapsed.

Hate to pile on, but AT LEAST pull the wheels and shove them under the body. It ain't much, but it could save your life... FYI, you can use the trans cooler lines to exchange ALL of the old fluid at once; Google is your friend sometimes . Your only other option is drain (pan drop) and refill multiple times... HTH/GL

I jacked up driver side, but only enough so I could squeeze underneath. If I had to do it again I'd find a tall curb I could drive up on. Walmart isn't an option for me to get jack stands since the nearest one is 120 miles away, lol. Remove a few bolts from the lowest point and you can drain most of the fluid into a pan without making a huge mess. I laid down a tarp first though so I wouldn't leave a mess on the pavement.

That's what I did yesterday I jacked her up like I was changing the front tires just to crawl under and get a look. My mom was laughing at me because I was jacking the car up and my front tires were still on the ground....she said u could put monster truck tires on ur car lol....but needless to say I didn't jack her all the way up I purposely kept the front tires on the ground Because I was just looking and not messing with anything.

So after draining most of the trans fluid should I use Lucas or just my manufacturer brand in the manual?? I don't care about price just want the best and hopefully it works and my trans ain't trash already!!!

Use GM Dexron 3 or higher. I put in Dexron VI as it exceeds requirements/protection of Dexron 3. Basically it's the updated version of Dexron.

Yes I was told the dexron VI was better...so I got the jack stands the gasket cover the sealent so it don't slide and new filter all for 46$ verses like 500 with mechanic...now hopefully it's not an internal issue.....but I have trans fluid all over the pan underneath the dip stick fluid is brown and smells a little burnt but is still at Max level so hopefully the filter is just clogged...any ideas???

I believe it was I drained all fluid was very black and of course putting my hand in it I though I was turning into silver surfer lol but replaced gasket and filter and put 8 qts of fluid until max level she still slips because I didn't flush so the fulid in dip stick is a little brown but shifting and running like a charm I'm so happy I decided to do it myself instead of wasting 3500 for something that cost me 45 all together
