Hi, Yes I am a newbie. I am a retired GM service manager worked mostly Cadillac. I did work Oldsmobile when the Aurora first came out. I purchased a 2001 4.0 Aurora for my 83 year mother in law to drive around town. I drive it on the highway to Dr's etc. It's got 85,000 on the clock, white with tan leather. Pretty rust free car for Indiana, was garage kept I believe. I'd like to keep it up and drive it a few years when she's done with it. I have the rear rattle issue at low speed, new air shocks, everything feels tight. Shop has replaced the shocks twice. First time they thought they were rattling internally, it goes back in next week. I am considering changing it to non air and unplugging the compressor. I am unable to get under a car any more due to health reasons. I read about the toe link, I'll mention that. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance, and looking forward to good information and Aurora stories!

Welcome Jeb, okay so you have rear rattle issue. I had that issue too, so I troubleshoot the issue on my car and found out my rear strut mounts where blown. Visually they look great but it's the strut shaft bouncing around in the mount. I replaced and problem solve, it's a couple of $$ at any auto store. Hopefully that was your issue.🤔

That's sounds like it could be it. I asked them more than once about that. I'm wondering if you can take the weight off the unit and get it to rattle. It does seem to go away once you pick up speed, and that kind of fits also. It's headed back to the shop on the 8th. I'll keep ya posted.
Thanks JeB

I'm sure that's it if it sounds like it's coming from your back seat while driving on the streets. These parts some techs don't know about or are overlooked. Legend has it once installed you'll gain 10 whopping Horsepower. media.giphy.com/media/CoDp6NnSmItoY/200.gif

Well, the car was in the shop a full week. They found front tie rod ends and sway bar bushing bad, (which had nothing to do with the noise in the rear) So we fixed that. They installed the shock mounts I requested, they say still had the noise, installed rear sway bar kits, still had the noise, check seat belt retractors, battery mount, fuel pump access panel, and suspension attach points. Removed the NAPA air shocks and upgraded to the KYB shock. Noise gone. Now was it really the shocks or the mount? They may maintain it was the shocks, but who cares, they warrantied the shocks and I got out of there for $450.00 including an alignment for the front end work. She's like a rocket sled on rails for sure. It's starting to get cold in Indiana, I'm hoping for a few more warm days to get some wax on it before winter sets in. The body is really nice, but I was disappointed the rear frame bracket that hold everything was a little rusty, I know, road salt. I forgot about that having spent the last 10 years in Florida. Thanks for the input, i don't want to give it back to the mother in law, but a promise was made, she drove a worn out Saturn I helped her find before we moved, so she deserves to be pampered.
