What holds the key in the run position? Would it be the ignition lock cylinder, or the intermediate part between that and the ignition switch - the center assembly that's attached under the rack?
And what would cause the plastic tab on the ignition switch break off? Went to start and the key seemed to get stuck too far forward in the ignite position and it sounded bad, like it was trying ton continuously start up. The key did not fall back to normal run position, so I turned it back to shut it off, heard something release or break (thinking the plastic tab on the switch). When I would turn the key it would start up but have no run position to fall back into.
Got a new ignition switch due to the tab being broken - new AC Delco switch (made in mexico) doesn't work, but that's a side note. Worried that the unit will break the tab off of the new switch regardless of whether it's functioning properly. Seems like the center assembly that bridges the lock cylinder and switch has some play in it as if it isn't held in straight. If anyone has knowledge in this area I'd appreciate the help - I can take pictures.
Just not wanting to waste money on the lock cylinder and that headache if the issue is really the connecting center assembly. I can't find any information on that area.
Thanks!
Edit Update: Interlock solenoid is good I think, probably going to replace the lock cylinder soon.
