When I bought my 97 it came with a cheap aftermarket replacement rear view mirror. The wires to the factory mirror were cut almost flush with the headliner.
Today in the salvage yard I grabbed a good looking factory mirror out of a 99. Is this compatible with my 97 and if so what's the best way of getting the headliner to drop a few inches so I can work in there? Just start unscrewing the visors and tugging?
Thanks in advance, I failed to use google effectively.

Can confirm 100%. I had a 97 mirror in my 96 for a couple years, then traded for the 99 mirror that was in my parts car. Complete plug and play, if you had the plug! ;D
Like Tigger said, just remove the A Pillars and bend the headliner down a bit, you should be able to access the wires. If memory serves, there are only 4-5 wires going to the mirror at most, so it shouldn't be that difficult to splice in the new wires and go!
When you're used to dealing with the single button the 95-96, or the toggles on the 97-98, the 99 mirror's buttons feel pretty slick!
