So I did a search for prod numbers on our cars and found the Wiki numbers but I'm not convinced those are correct.
Wiki says that in '03 Oldsmobile produced appx 7200 units. My VIN says otherwise unless I am reading it incorrectly: 1G3GS64C034168847
I would say that my car is #8847 off the line. Do I have that right?

According to carsalesbase.com/us-car-sales-data/oldsmobile/ total 2003 Oldsmobile production was 125,897, of which 7217 were Auroras. So I think that the correct interpretation of your VIN is that your Aurora is the 68,847th 2003 Oldsmobile that was built.

When did they change the numbering when it came to VINs? I thought that each model had it's own numbering system? For example, my Toro is 1G3EV13L3NU300098. I always thought that was the 98th Toronado made in 1992. By the above logic, it was the 98th Oldsmobile made in 1992???

I really don't know about the Toronado's VIN. It might be that they changed the VIN numbering system in the 1990s.

So I got on the GM chat today asking about what number my Aurora was. Take it for what its worth, but look at that production number... Alyssa at 11:58, Dec 26: Thank you for your patience, Tanner. Sadly, we do not have information regarding what number your vehicle falls within the production total, but I can provide you the number for the production totals for this vehicle. The production totals for this vehicle that year were 4,047. You at 11:59, Dec 26: only 4047 auroras? You at 12:00, Dec 26: total in 2003? Alyssa at 12:00, Dec 26: Yes, that is correct. You at 12:00, Dec 26: wow. Okay. Thank you for answering my question Alyssa at 12:01, Dec 26: You're welcome. Alyssa at 12:01, Dec 26: Are there any other questions you have for me today? You at 12:01, Dec 26: No ma'am Alyssa at 12:01, Dec 26: Thank you for contacting General Motors Customer Assistance Center. We appreciate your business. Please feel free to contact us if assistance is needed in the future. We are available to chat Monday through Friday 8 am to 9 pm and Saturday 9 am to 9 pm EST.

Found this;
PRODUCTION NUMBERS, OLDSMOBILE
1897-19551956-2004The production figures for 1897-1997 are extracted from the book: Setting the Pace: Oldsmobile's First 100 Years by Helen Jones Earley and James R. Walkinshaw. The years 1998-2004 are contained in the supplement to Setting The Pace titled Oldsmobile, The Last Chapter. These production figures were provided courtesy of Dan Gulino. Oldsmobile and the GM Heritage Center consider these to be the official Oldsmobile production numbers. Looks like 4047 is correct...
Only 2289 V8s for '02!

Only 2289 V8s for '02! Wow! Thanks for digging that up. Unreal but awesome. Definitely going to have to keep a look out for parts cars as they become available.
