2003 Aurora with 155K. We have started to notice that the car will randomly die. This morning, I drove it to work and while doing 70 mph it just died and restarted again. Tach drops and you lose power for 2-3 seconds and then everything is fine again. You can tell it died and then it's running fine.
On a trip, we pull in to get gas (had two cars at the time) and she puts gas into it. She tries to start the car and it won't start. She walks over to the pump I'm at and tells me the car won't start. I walk over and get in and the car starts right up. On that same trip, she comes to a stop at the stop sign and the car dies. She just starts the car back up and she continued on.
It's starting to happen about once every time we drive the car. It's like it does it and then it's fine driving it around for the remainder of the time.
The car had new plugs and I think one of the coil packs replaced about 2 years ago.
What I'm thinking.
Ignition related. (coil pack, timing/crank sensor)
Fuel Pump (original fuel pump)
Anyone have this issue before? Any ideas on what it could be?

Humm! Symptoms of a fuel pump. 1st check to see if you have good connection with your MAF sensor, while your at it clean it as well. If it continues then most possibly is fuel pump. Check for codes and see what you get. That was my case and solved...

Crankshaft position sensors. Change both of them. You may not even get a code.

Thanks everyone.
I believe one of the Crankshaft position sensors was replaced when the plugs were changed. Taxing my memory here but we took it in because the car won't start at times. It would crank and crank. Let it set for a minute and it would fire right up. I believe that's when new plugs, a coil pack and maybe of the sensors were replaced.
Sounds like I just need to take it in and get both replaced and be done with it.

This very same problem plagued me for over seven months I changed everything imaginable from the, fuel pump, mass airflow sensor, spark plugs wires, camshaft sensor, ignition coil, spark plugs, Ignition control module, Idle air control valve, throttle position sensor, fixed vacuum leaks, EGR Valve, Cadillac converter, map sensor, PVC valve with elbow, battery, alternator, etc.
The crazy part about this entire situation was that I would never get codes other than a car running to lean or random misfire.
The problem ended up being that I needed a new wiring harness I was able to locate one from a junkyard online. I have been driving now for about two months. The car hasn’t died since.
I pray this helps you and save you some money. I would never wish this problem on my worst enemy! It was almost impossible to track down because it was a dangerous intermittent issue.
There were some wires inside the harness that were simply damaged due to time and the heat of the engine. Your PCM will not send a specific code for this issue. Hence why my situation was a process of elimination.
