Hey guys, very new here and can't find information anywhere else but I have an issue that's been stressing me and my lady out. Our 96 Aurora is clunking and making disgusting metal on metal noises under the front of the car. At first, when it was just a pop and click, I thought it was a CV axle or so. But after checking and having her move the wheel, I noticed it was coming from the subframe. The bushings were completely corroded and on the right side, with the wheel turned fully left, I could freely spin the bushing. I'm reading everywhere that I'll either have to replace to subframe itself and can't find bushings for the car (checked Rockauto and everywhere) nor can I find a subframe. On a GM parts website says it's a discontinued part. What would anybody recommend I do? I found bushings for a 99 model and they look very similar, should I buy those? I really don't want to sell the car and with the condition the bushings are in I doubt even if I wanted to sell it, nobody would buy it due to the uncomfortable noise it produces. Please help

The subframe bushings are the same for all Aurora year models for interchangeability. They differed slightly by part number . I replaced all six lowers with gm #25674564 which is still available from gm. It is a chinese replacement part of lower quality in a gm box. Possibly same as Dorman? My upper bushings were mostly good. Luckily I did not have any rust or corrosion of the subframe or mounting hardware. Rust could make it a difficult repair or replacement of the subframe cradle.

They should be available from a local GM dealer, I picked some up a year ago, though I have a '98.

my 99, I bought 6 dorman mounts and I bought a 1999 Buick Park Avenue's subframe(same as 99 aurora, odly) which is convenient because I also own a 1999 park avenue. Anyway. Im going to try to do the job soon(shop wouldnt touch the car because one of the back 4 bushings was rotted on the subframe). So I figured id do all 6 and the subframe. The only difference from 98 to 99 was the addition of an extra motor mount. 99 and 98 should be the same in all other ways. 97, if I remember correctly, is the year of oddities. 96, if i were to understand correctly, should share a subframe with a 96 park avenue and possibly a 96 lesabre, and even possibly a 96 88. But I don't know that for sure.By using a cradle out of a newer car, Id imagine you could upgrade it to aluminum control arms. Maybe. Im not sure if there are other differences in the cradles.
