As if I don't have enough going on at the moment, I drove the 03 today and out of nowhere it started ticking. Sounds like something in the valvetrain. Single cylinder at most. Has anyone had any experience with top end noises on Northstars? should I expect it to be the hydraulic lash adjuster / lifter?

My guess......a lifter or lifters.

Hmm...it went away after the car sat off for a few hours. I checked the oil level, a little low, but still in the cross-hatch area of the dipstick. My mom used to have a DTS that did the same thing years ago - the issue came and went for 40k miles until she got rid of it at nearly 170k miles.
I'll be leaving the country for a few years, so the car is going to sit. I guess it will be something I have to deal with when I get back.

mostly if oil is low when the car is cold it will do that or if car not being driven for a while or when outside is super cold. After car warms up or during summer days i never herd that noise only in winter.
