For my 01 Oldsmobile 4.0 I was installing a new after market car radio today and when I plugged it up it came on but to turn it off and turn it back I would have to actually unplug the wiring harness from the electric board. Along with when I left the radio plugged up and the car was on the car cut off. Now before I messed with the radio the car would cut off due to the MAF & Air Idle Control Valve and I had that fixed it stopped cutting off and idling but now messing with the radio and plugging a aftermarket one up it cut off again so I’m not sure if it’s the electric wiring, the radio or a blown fuse. I took the aftermarket radio back out and put the stock model back in and the car is back working properly but now I gotta get this radio in. And just another FYI my lower dash cigarette lighter receptacle is out but my passenger floor one works which is extremely odd.

Which wiring harness are you using? And are you SURE it's connected to the aftermarket head unit correctly?

Yeah, that's the wrong harness. You need GMOS-05 (or GMOS-09 for Bose)...

How would I know if I had Bose or not? Does every 2001 4.0 have em?

Basically, if you have rear door speakers, you have the Bose system.
Check your RPO sticker (on the underside of the spare tire cover) for codes U1F and U80 to confirm.

And just a heads up, you'll need a ASWC-1 interface to keep steering wheel controls...

This harness will work as well but it will not retain chimes. You do need to make sure that pins are in correct spots some of those basic harness has them in wrong pins. Other wise like Tigger said you need one of those modules GMOS once. If you have bose your radio will say bose as well on the cassette tape cover.
