If you had to pick which Aurora generation is the best between the first and 2nd which one would you pick and why? What do you like about the generation that the other doesn’t have?

I have driven a 1st gen for 12 years now so I may be a bit biased. I prefer the 1st gen. I have driven a few 2gs and they have felt more cramped to me (although I think they have the same amount of space inside). That being said there are definitely positives for going with a 2G. Coil over plug is one, more modern tech (not much), more modern airbags as well as choice of V6 or V8. Really it comes down to which style you prefer. I suspect the 1G will hold more value in the future if that's the sort of thing you are interested in.

I would pick 2nd gen because of nice style and improvements but as RCA1186 said you feel cramped. I wish it had same amount of space as 1g. I loved Intrigue if only it had all the tech as 2g i would drive the intrigue just because it is so much bigger than 2g.

I’ve never had the chance to drive a Generation 1. Once I do I will then choose what’s best I love both body’s on both their both a classic body and turns head a when people see them.

Can't we all just get along? You are my enemy for asking that. Thus opinions nullified!

The 2G is a great vehicle, don't get me wrong, but I'll always prefer the 1G. It has a uniqueness to it, albeit outdated, that I still enjoy. The dash alone would sell it for me!
If only they made a classic with the high mounted third break light on the 2G... that would be perfect!

I own a white 1997 and a silver 2001 with 3.5 engine and I have to say I love driving them both.
I find the Gen 1 with Autobahn, Bose Acoustimass stereo and sunroof a true luxury cruiser with lots of power.
But the 2001, even with the V6 engine, feels more nimble and peppier, and feels sportier and more fun to drive.
If I have a complaint, it's that I feel the workmanship on certain details on my Gen 2 is not up to the same standard as my Gen 1. (The most glaring example: I've never had to replace an instrument panel or button lightbulb on my Gen 1, but in my Gen 2 I've had to pull the dash and almost every button on the door controls and console -- and SOLDER in new replacements for most -- because they were burned out. No fun, but happy to do it, because it's such a beautiful car, and I'm such an Olds-lovin' nerd.)
In the final analysis, I love them both, but find the electronics twitchier in the Gen 2 (anybody else's signal light staying 'on' after a turn; anybody else's windshield wipers having a mind of their own sometimes and don't want to shut off?)
But they're both 'family' -- and no real complaints. Having a car hobby is enjoying the repairs, is it not? Love my Auroras!

I have the same issue with mines it does have a mind of it’s on when it comes to the windshield wipers. Along with the turn signal staying on after turning and sometimes I just enjoy riding so much in the 2001 4.0 I don’t even pay attention to see if my turning signal has been switched off yet

Love my Auroras! my 2001 had wipers like that. would even engage in off. they ran so fast on a hot day once the motor overheated and it cooled down it never did it again? ?? who knows. the cars have the same suspension setup 98-2003 minus differences in spring rates and roll bars

Had 5 2g Auroras range from 2001-2003 never had issues with automatic wipers even after windshield change. Its actually works better than on most new cars now days.

There are no bad choices but given the time the 1G was just more unique and I feel the exterior styling is more attention getting.
