So bad news. Found out why my 01 4.0 was overheating it was the radiator. the radiator and reservoir tank has to be replaced but I also found out that my engine block is cracked and one of my engine mounts is broken. Would it make sense to put another engine in this car? This car has done wonders it has 282k miles on it I just had the transmission rebuilt and I’m thinking about just getting the engine rebuilt would that be a good idea ? I already spent $2700 on the transmission and labor and I’m looking at another $2500 on the engine. Of course these days $2500 is still not enough for another car. Surprisingly I was told that the head gaskets are still in good shape.

If the block is cracked, it'll be a big waste of time & money to rebuild it. Your best bet there is to get a rebuilt engine for the car, and then only if you really like the car. Try googling "Oldsmobile Aurora remanufactured engine". Google should pull up a lot of sources.

Since you have 2001 make sure there is no major rust where struts connect to the body check all 4 sides. Make sure subframes not rusting out otherwise you will spend $ and the body would need to go to the garbage. If the body is good for most part yes i would get another engine make sure that new engine has all new gaskets including head gaskets. Than would install it. That what i did for my 2003 with 130k miles. I removed the engine changed all gaskets that exist on this car metal or rubber etc and few other parts while engine is out. Than put it back in.
