I have a 2001 6 cyl Aurora and I love it. The ignition switch is failing, and has been over the last few years. At first, the clockwise motion of the key did not activate the starter, so we installed a wire from the battery to a dash mounted push button to the solenoid, but activation of the starter was still intermittent. I changed the starter, but the intermittent operation continued. Same issue with both keys. Is there anyway to bypass the security settings, and turn on the car. Then use the button to start. I am not concerned about someone breaking in and stealing the car. HELP!

Considering how difficult and close to impossible that it would be to bypass the transponder ignition system, it would be easier & cheaper to replace the ignition switch.

Yes what mark said its much easier and cheaper to replace it. There ways to byapss by using Alarm system with remote start just disable the option to kill the car when you press brake pedal etc. But alarm system will cost same or more $ than ignition switch. If this an issue . It might be something else. bad ground cable etc. Since you have a v6 i seen those starters come defective as well a lot. I would put New AC Delco alienor and another starter. Other issue can be crank positioning sensor.

I had the same issues you are facing in my 2001 3.5. (In fact, at the end it was just 'dying' while i was driving at night, with dash lights flashing off and on intermittently). I put in a $60 AC Delco switch and it's been starting like a champ ever since. It's not a difficult job, if you have patience and a couple of free hours to move at a beginner's pace.
