Hi All. My 99 is complaining. I have a NEW noise coming from my Trans side cover. It is knocking with a bit of a squeak to it. (I've uploaded the sound file.) Let me know if anyone has an idea of what this is? The noise is undetectable when in gear.

First check the trans oil level. If that's OK, have it scanned.

Hi Marc and Thanks for the reply. Nothing comes up in the scan. It sounds like a rod knock in the trans.

If you are hearing any kind of knocking or squealing its not a good thing and needs to be examined immediately. its going to require a trans removal.

Bulletin No.: 99-03-08-005
Date: October, 1999
TECHNICAL
Subject: Clunk, Rattle or Metal to Metal Noise from Front of Vehicle (Install Anti-Slip/Friction Material)
Models: 1998-99 Buick Park Avenue 1998-99 Buick Riviera 1998-99 Cadillac DeVille, Eldorado, Seville 1998-99 Oldsmobile Aurora Built prior to April 1, 1999
Condition Some customers may comment that a clunk, rattle or metal-to-metal noise from the left front or right front of the vehicle can be heard in the passenger compartment. This condition may be more noticeable in cold weather conditions.
Cause This condition may be due to the stabilizer bar rubber insulator "walking out" of its seated position between the engine frame and the stabilizer mounting bracket/clamp during large suspension movements.
Correction Install a 50 mm (2 in) by 38 mm (1.5 in) strip of anti-slip/friction material such as 3M(R) SAFETY-WALK (TM)General Purpose Tread Tape, P/N 19221, or equivalent, between the engine frame and the stabilizer shaft insulator.
