My 2001 4.0 would not shift out of 1st. My scan tool, an Actron CP9135, showed a DTC-502, indicating a bad vehicle speed sensor. Replacement:I put the car up on ramps. I was then able to reach everything from the bottom............ 1. There is a bracket that blocks access to the VSS. Remove it. It is attached by 3 bolts, 2 to the 4T80E, and 1 to the engine. Use a 15mm socket. 2. The VSS can then be reached, but you'll working blindly for the most part. First unplug the wiring & then loosen the 1 bolt that holds it....10mm socket. 3. Lift the bad VSS out, put the new one in. Make sure the bolt holes in its hold down bracket and its mount line uo. Tighen the bolt. Reconnect the wiring. 4. Replace the bracket. There are pictures of everything below. They are very large, because the free hosting site that I'm using now doesn't allow resizing. Scroll down to see them. BTW, the fact that I am almost 80 years old didn't stop me from doing this. God has blessed me with incredible agility and endurance for my age!!!!! Bracket: VSS Location: VSS:
