I remember reading that one can easily restore some lost performance by cleaning the PCV valve and throttle body. but, for the life of me, cannot find any posts on how/where/when to do this.
thanx

Throttle body cleaning is always a good idea. Generally for the PCV, check to see if it rattles. If it does, then its fine...if it doesnt rattle, its time to change it. Usually the PCV gets done at the 100K tune up. I am 10 000 miles away from that pocket buster. Tranny fluid, coolant servicing, wires, plugs, MAF (if I need it), fuel filter, PCV, and I may get my FPR changed..its...acting up, as per usual on these cars

Fuel Pressure Regulator, notorious for dying around 80-100K miles.
Basically the symptoms are hard starts, surging while accelerating, that sorta thing.

Erw...sorry I havent found much online or in my resources about PCV location and replacement. I wish Chiltons had a manual on 95-99 G-body GM cars I'll keep looking and if I find something I will post it, or maybe someone else knows?

On my '96, the PCV valve is on the passenger side of the engine, on the back near the firewall (just below the wiper motor). Can't miss it once you focus in on the right area...

Advice, go buy the new PCV valve first. ONce you have the $3 part in hand, you'll immediately see it on the engine. It take NO tools to get to or change it and takes all of about 5 seconds to do. Its toward the firewall on passenger side about 2/3 forward toward firewall sticking right out in the open.

How hard is it to change Fuel Pressure Regulator and how much does this cost? Also, does anyone know if Haynes/Chilton makes a book for this car?

FPR change = easy. Do a quick search on this forum for FRP, and you will find the procedure, erw38 just changed his last weekend.
This car is a bit to complex for Haynes or Chiltons, you need a Helms shop manual or the GM G-body shop manual (year specific)

I think it's pretty sad that I went to Autozone searching all the Haynes manuals and they make one for the TOYOTA MR2, one of the weirdest cars, and FOREIGN to boot. BUT, an AMERICAN car made by GM, no manual made. That's sad! They have all these VW and NISSAN crap manuals, but nothing for a good american car. What's america coming too? Thanks Jim for pointing me to the FPR thread, will look at it tonight. How much does this FPR cost? ROughly?

There's more of a demand for a TOYOTA MR2 haynes book than an Aurora? I used to own an MR2 about 7 years ago, and judging by the numbers sold which eventually led to the discontinuation of the MR2 until recently, which has totally changed, I know first hand that supply and demand for that car is not near what the Aurora is. Drive around and look on car lot and in newspapers, rarely do you see an MR2 out there. ONly a few bought them and they plan to keep them.

None the less, if there was more demand for the Aurora manual than for the MR2, it would be easier to find

I believe the reason why there is no Haynes or Chiltons manuals is the level of complexity and knowledge that is required for the GM G-body chassis. I have been unsucessful in locating Chiltons manuals for the 2000+ Bonneville, Auroras or Rivieras. The G-body factory manual is 2 volumes. I think it comes down to economics, with only 15 000 Auroras made each year from 95-99 the need to publish non-factory manuals is unnecessary. You can find G-body manuals on Ebay, but www.helminc.com is fine as well.

FPR cost about 50 bucks..............have a rag handy................relieve the fuel pressure first on the calce (unscrew the black knob and push in the metal nipple by where the fuel lines first hit the valves).....unscrew the gas cap...............take the FPR out (held in by only the compression fitting) (ignore the screw on top of it)..............be sure and dig around where the FPR sits because right under the little puddle of gas is a black o-ring that took me awhile to realize it was there......pope the new FPR in ....reinstall the compression fitting.........cover the FPR with rhe rag (incase there in a leak) and your done............if you see leak do NOT start the car
took me 45 min because I couldn't find that stupid o-ring pluse I am stupid when it comes to cars

you mentioned ebay to buy a two volume factory manual set. i've noticed them for sale on ebay. But, some 95 aurora/riviera manuals have a pink/peach cover and some have a blueish colored cover. Why and whats the difference?

The 95 Aurora is not really the same mechanically as the 96+. eg the brakes rotors are smaller on the 95 then the 96+, regardless the cover colour could simply be publication time and what was available. Regardless, make sure its year specific

I have a '98 manual for the Aurora & Riviera - and it's 3 volumes. I don't know if the cars got more complicated or if they wanted to make the books smaller - so you could lift 'em ! Well over 3500 pages.

i definately know im looking at 95 manuals only, just in case, but they come in two different colors and nobody selling them on ebay can explain why. one person selling them even has manual one being blue and two being a pink color. I just want to make sure that one is not a more deluxe more in depth version than the other.

i've asked 3 sellers about the color of manuals. one seller has an all pink colored set, 95, two volume. one seller has an all blue cover, 95, two volume. one seller has a set with one blue book and one pink book. the descriptions on the books all look the same. the colors though are different.

My '98 manual says in the preface that it's the second edition and contains new and updated information - "if you are in possession of the early edition please DISCARD it because the information is outdated"
The different colours could be different editions - ask the seller which edition - it should say so on the first page.
