A while ago on my 2001 Aurora, the light burnt out under center console gear selector (not the dash indicator).
Instead of bringing it to a dealer, I brought it to an Auto Electric guy and there is a light in there now - except at night the light is white/yellow where everything else is green/blue.
I don't remember what color this light was - was it yellow/white or the same as the rest of the dash and console? I think they just put in a regular bulb or there might be a blue/green filter that they forgot to replace or install or maybe the dealer light IS blue/green.
can someone shed some light into this?
Thanks

As far as I can see, the actual piece of translucent plastic that makes up the indicator is orange.

So the lights on the selector appear as orange on all 2001 Auroras then?

On classics the shift indicator is orange... IF the light works, which most of ours don't. I can't say for sure on 2nd-gens, but I would imagine they are all the same.

Thanks scottydl !! Any 2nd gens out there with a working center console light that can verify that the color is orange?

The gear shift indicator on the 2nd Gen between the tach and spedo is orange.

On the gen2's, I'm pretty sure the gear shift is just backlight. The only indicator I saw was in the cluster.
DUH...sorry. I just reread your first post, and I am a cretin. The backlight for the gear shift is white.

yes you are quite correct - it is backlight that lights all all the selections - they don't "change" when you move the lever
The question that I have for 2nd gens is - is that backlight orange or is it blue-green like the rest of the indicator lights?

kobalt - do you mean to say that the light on the miidle console (NOT the dashboard gear indicator) is blue-green?
I had a garage change my light and it is white...to tell you the truth, it has been so long that it has been burnt out I don't remember what color it was - but the white looks out of place when everything else is blue-green

It is blue green - I looked specifically after you inquired about it in your post. I'll post a pic later.

The lite is blue-green and the reason for that is that the bulb #37 has a blue plastic type cover on it. So if you have it changed which is a fairly big job your mechanic did not put the blue cover on the #37 bulb. I replaced mine and had a hard time finding the proper #37 bulb which is a minature type bulb but there seems to be a lot of difference in the size of the base. There is a TSB #01-08-49-010 (June29,2001) on removing the center console cover Document ID#804710

I guess that means to put the TSB on this site so we can all see it? But then jacoba has to scan it.

Jacob, First, go to www.photobucket.com and signup for an account (it's free). Second, come back here and link to it using the sequence ... [ img] Copy the image url string that photobucket gives you and paste it here leaving out the spaces [ /img] that should do it as an img (no the preferred method(at least by my standards)) the other option is to repeat the first step and then when you come back here post it as a url............. [ url] copy the real url string here (again without spaces)[ /url] don't forget to leave out the spaces that I put in

hey jacoba - I received them in my email - thank you very much
They are a little small and light, but I can read them - I just don't see the diagram too well...but it is very workable !
If I give you my 800-fax# can you just fax them to me - that might come out better
thanks
