I want to get one for my 2001 Aurora. Any suggestions. I'm looking for a good one (long range, special options, etc.)
Just a starter, not an alarm too.

I'm buying my brother a remote starter for his 2000+ Bonneville (same car as the Aurora) and it's going to cost just under $300 total. Keep in mind you'll need an extra key to place in the bypass under the dash too. The key is over $100 easy at the stealerships too. I'm getting the Viper with keyless entry installed on his car. They're a very good unit. anything made by DEI is a good brand. On the Riviera I have an Avital unit installed. (also good.) Most of the stuff that best buy carries that are remote starters are good brands believe it or not. That's where I am getting his installed, and that's where I got mine installed. The range on the avital is great. It's around 100 yards.

Custom, that Viper setup is an alarm with all the bells and whistles, right? I think Phishin is just wanting the remote start feature. I saw one for sale at Advance Auto (like Auto Zone) a couple weeks ago for $30, no joke. I don't know what the installation time/difficulty is like, but you may want to consider a DIY job if you're looking to save money. I'd recommend checking your newspaper sale ads for the next few weeks, and see what pops up.

I just got my remote start added to my alarm a couple days ago, it only cost me $169.00, for the remote starter to be added.
I tell you, it's the nicest thing to have, next to the alarm.

Well I took it back to where I originally purchased my alarm and the guy there just like added a module that attaches to the Alarms brain, but you have to program the remote control for the remote start to work, usin a computer and stuff, it sounds easy but, your better off having a place where they sell alarms and stuff do it for you.
My alarm is Clifford and my remote start is a Clifford as well, I wanted to keep everything the same, I had gone to a couple different places and they told me after I had told them that I already had an alarm, that they could add the remote start as an accessory, I for some reason did not like the sound of that, so I just went back to the same place where I had bought my alarm a while back.
See here is the cool thing to having an alarm and a remote start, when you turn on the remote start, my alarm stays armed, so if some one goes near my Aurora or attemps to open one of my doors the remote start shuts off, once I turn off my alarm, you still need the key for the ignition once you get inside to disarm the alarm.
It's kind of a cool thing.
I'm very satisfied with mine.

I'm not to worried about the alarm, the car is a low risk target and insured to the hilt. However the convienience of a remote starter is desired. Especially after having one on my previous car.
I was worried about the VATS bypass and other stock electrical issues, but a professional can work around it I'm sure.
thanks for your insights though.

Oh about that, I forgot to mention, yes most remote starts come with a bypass module for the PASS KEY system.
So that's not a problem.
If you feel comfortable on doing it, then try it out.
I would of done it my self, but the part about programming it using a computer, that to me sounds like not only you needed the software for that but how to do it as well, so that's why I went the professionals.

just a question, is there any way i can add on to the stock keyless entry and have the original remote with remote start? i think that would be nice. some chic came to my work with multiple remotes on her newer caddy escalade, it was rather annoying. she couldnt figure out which remote to work to unlock the doors/disarm the alarm and all her alarms were going off. very annoying, lol!

I don't think the GM keyfob would work with aftermarket equipment/features... but any decent alarm or remote starting system should be able to replace your current remote. Often times, aftermarket remotes even have extra buttons for adding features later if desired.

Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram for a 1999 Olds Aurora? I am going to try to install my remote car starter myself, and it sure would help.
Thank, Dan

That would be fantastic. It seems like there should be someplace online that you could download that kind of stuff, but I can't find it.

For what it is worth, I have had many cars over the last years and most of the electrical problems were caused by the remote starter installation and will not buy one with it installed unless it is a foctory option. The problem is that most installers try to find the proper wires with a pointed probe which leaves holes in the wiring and can cause problems. Having said that my Aurora is parked nice and warm undergroung so I do not need one.

I don't know what place your are going with, all of the parts for an Alarm or a Remote Start are like modules you plug in to your factory wiring, there is no cutting or splicing or wires, as you long as you have the right modules, you should be okay and problem free.
