My DIC started to act funny last week, while my wife was sitting in the Wal-mart parking lot waiting on me. I think it was due to a nearly-dead battery, but I thought I'd run this by y'all.
The engine was off but the key was on, with the stereo playing for about 20-25 minutes. At one point, my wife tried to turn the key and the starter just clicked. A little while later, I got in the car and the engine started, but just barely... I think the battery was almost depleted from everything being left on. Then the DIC freaked out... my date was thrown off, and the Oil Life indicator jumped to 0% (which had been at 43% or so).
Would that be caused by a low battery? And should the battery have been depleted after only 25 minutes of use? It seems like it shouldn't have been affected so much. FWIW, none of those problems have recurred since that day.

I think I just found my answer from Marc in this thread, but any conversation about this is still welcome.

mine did that, just clicked. Its your battery cables, not necessarily the battery. I had my original 1995 battery replaced when it was just the stupid battery cables they get loose from hitting bumps over time

i was putting in speakers and head unit, and accidentally ran my battery down too...
same problems, INCLUDING the oil life... how odd.
i had just ignored the oil life thing... i figured that maybe the programming made the DIC go down to a certain point then to just read 0%, but now i know the real story =)
