I purchased a new remote for my '96 online. I went to the Chev. dealership and he checked the code and determined that I had the right one. He then checked the remote and said it was sending signal. He mentioned that they charge $15.00 to program it, but he thougt it was something I could do myself. He told me to jump #4 term to #8 and close doors and turn on key. The locks should cycle then hold Unlock and lock down for 30 secs. Well no luck. No lock cycle when I turned on key. So today I brought it back to them and asked them to do it for me. Well the tech said they only had instructions going back to "98 and he was unsure about sequence for "96. I called 2 other shops and got the same answer. Any help is what I need.

He told you right... and I can't believe that info was given out for free! The sequence should work with any OBD-II equipped GM car I believe, which your '96 should have... someone correct me if I'm wrong. What were you using to jump the connections? I used a bent paper clip for mine, but you do have to make sure that a good contact is made. Also make sure you're jumping the right contacts... I messed mine up (and nothing happened) originally because I was looking at the OBD-II connector upside down.

Is that connector mounted upside down in the '96?

OK I just went out and looked at mine again and it is upside down. #4 on top row has nothing in it. So I took paper clip and put it in #1 and 5 counting from left to right on the bottom row, which would be #4 and #8 considering its mounted upside down, got in closed doors, turned on ingnition switch, door locks cycled. I held down LOCK and UNLOCK buttons for about 10 secs and locks cycled again. I turned key off and it works flawlessly now. THX.
